youngGoku,

Does synology phone home though? Made in China, not exactly a reputable place as far as privacy goes.

(I also have a synology nas but it has 2 2TB drives and I don’t let it talk to the outside world)

youngGoku,

Do you keep these in a low power, optimized environment or is this just your daily driver PC?

youngGoku, (edited )

Well it definitely checks for updates, and it has services for finding nas for dummies that use outside communications. My router policy doesn’t allow it to talk to the outside, but certain docker containers hosted on the nas can access internet via raspberry pi proxy

Occasionally I let it update then close it off again.

youngGoku,

So can I cast a live twitch stream to my raspberry pi using this?

I hope someday we'll find a way to pirated a car (lemmy.world)

In the end, the KIA car company made its cars into subscription models, I really hate this because in the end the car we buy with our own money doesn’t feel like it belongs to us. Should we finally buy an old school car ? so as not to be affected by this subscription models or is there a way to crack the software installed in...

youngGoku,

Not to mention the data they mine from you with their “app” that they can sell to advertisers.

youngGoku,

I explained to finance why we had to purchase licenses for for a UI library. To justify the costs, they asked what the alternative was. I told them we don’t have the talent or resources to develop our own UI library… But I offered up free open source alternatives.

Unfortunately the FOSS stuff never gets approved by IT due to vulnerability / threats.

youngGoku,

Depends, sometimes not always. Having source available makes it easy for hackers to find exploit but also makes it easier for community to identify and address exploits.

So… For a large active community project, it’s likely fairly secure but for smaller projects with 1 or just a few developers it might be vulnerable.

looking for a specific downloader website

hi all, i saw a post (or perhaps it was in the comments) about 1-2 weeks ago of a website to download any youtube/vimeo/instagram/tiktok/whatever video/audio in many different formats. it was a FOSS website. dark background, with maybe red text in places? on mobile, it had tabs on the bottom for video/audio/other....

youngGoku,

Jdownloader is also good. But it’s not a website it’s software.

youngGoku,

First mistake was having windows installed lol.

youngGoku,

Why do so many people prefer :wq over :x?

Pirated video games SOURCE CODE

So there are multiple sites&groups that pirate video games especially on PC. I was wondering if there are places on the internet where you find source code for games especially the highly modifiable ones like Half Life 2/Portal and Skyrim. Or groups that crack into the source code of games (or even software in general), not only...

youngGoku,

Also Minecraft was reverse engineered.

youngGoku,

Yeah but that was more of a “if we can’t beat 'em, join 'em” thing and I believe some, if not most of the modders don’t even use the official mappings and prefer the cracked version

youngGoku,

Your ssh private keys are safe, assuming nobody has physical access to your home directory. You can configure them to not require a password.

If someone has physical access to your computer then they could become compromised. If you are worried about that you could encrypt the whole drive.

youngGoku,

Technically a house can have arms… A Coat of Arms.

<span style="color:#323232;">chmod +x ./install.sh
</span><span style="color:#323232;">./install.sh
</span><span style="color:#323232;">
</span>

Hmm usually not a secure practice to do this

youngGoku,

Read the official docs to build from source.

youngGoku,

Same. I can’t remember the last time I started a docker container without a compose file.
