I know when I had mostly stopped engaging with facebook, it started giving me absurd notifications, like "someone you don't know posted something in a group you never check." It starts looking kind of desperate.
I used to be on Facebook Dating, when I go awhile without logging in to facebook, it seems to remember that I was on it and starts telling me about potential matches with photos that seem to slowly get more attractive.
Same with Relay... I checked it to see what the dead so would look like and all the genetic frontage posts loaded in... It'll be interesting to see what happens.
The author of relay put out a post saying that it'll keep going for free while he decides what the subscription model is going to look like - it's the top post in the sub ATM.
Was surprised with that choice, but it doesn't change anything - not using it anymore regardless
I loved Relay and I really wish the dev the best, but I won't continue using it and Reddit because the underlying issue remains. Reddit admin is rotten.
Rif kept working throughout a lot of the day yesterday but I finally had a minute yesterday evening, very late, and sat down and launched the app... It worked for a few moments but alas that was only the cached posts. Soon it stopped, for good.
It was very sad uninstalling rif, I can't fathom the obscene amount of hours spent using it, endlessly scrolling my carefully curated subs, be it while pooping, waiting for someone, watching something dumb, or in the middle of the night unable to sleep.
Sigh.
Hey, there's lots of nice people and good magazines and fewer bots and trolls over here, so we'll all be fine.
If you put the Kbin link or Lemmy app right in RIF's place on your home screen, you'll barely miss it when your muscle memory comes calling for you to push the icon when you get ever so slightly bored.
I just uninstalled it for the first time since I created a Reddit account in 2012, and I'm pretty sure it was the first app I ever paid for. It was always number one in the download list for a new phone. Occasionally I'd fancy a change and try other Reddit apps, but they never lasted more than a few minutes. Give me that clean interface any day. Big thanks to the devs for all the fun over the years.
