If you’re on Android, you can look on F-Droid. If you’re on Linux, you can look on Flathub, if your DE doesn’t already include one by default. Thunderbird also has RSS support to my knowledge.
I use feeder (and apparently there’s more than one rss app called feeder), and it’s FOSS. I like it a lot. The one feature it doesn’t have is any filtering. I wish I could filter some feeds. My local news seems to be like 50% sports, and a lot of sites these days have half of the “articles” they put out just containing a list of Amazon affiliate links. It also doesn’t do audio of video, but I don’t use it for that
Some alternative clients of Apple Music I use use the API of this to copy “universal” song/album links. It also has functions as a music search engine so maybe it can be useful to you. It’s not FOSS and its privacy policy could be better though. odesli.co
FFXIV is a fantastic game, with a fantastic free trial that lets you play the entire base game for free (and i think they recently expanded that to the first expansion too), and its beautiful as hell, has a fantastic story, and doesnt require a super computer to run.
They actually just expanded it to the second expansion, so you now get the base game of A Realm Reborn, as well as Heavensward and Stormblood included in the free trial.
It’s also releasing for beta on Xbox later this year (currently it’s PC and PS4/5) so there’s due to be a new influx of players as well, so it’s a good time to start playing. That and the new expansion is due out in the new year too.
yes, it’s currently ps4/5 and PC but when it launches on Xbox it’ll have crossplay on release. I also believe cross save exists but you have to purchase DLC specifically for the platform you’re on.
Yup, this is right. Everyone plays on the same servers regardless of the platform you’re on, but any expansion you purchase is tied to the platform (so Mac, PC, PSN and soon presumably Xbox). So if you personally want to play on multiple platforms you need to buy multiple copies of the game.
However that only applies to the initial purchase. FFXIV being an MMO still has a monthly subscription fee (unless you’re on the free trial, which isn’t time limited and includes the base game plus the first two expansions), but you only pay that once a month per account, regardless of how many platforms you play on.
Pretty much everything is stored on the server as well, so regardless of the platform you log into, your character will be the same. There’s a small number of things that are kept client side (things like your gear sets and your UI setup), however there is an option to upload your settings from one client and download them on another (so for me for example, my PS5 is my primary device but I sometimes play on PC, so I’ve copied my PS5 settings to the server, and then downloaded them onto my PC, all through the game client).
No stress! It’s only changed recently (like it was only announced at the NA Fanfast a few months back), so nothing wrong with having missed the change!
I’ve set up my Spotify to tell Last.fm what songs I listen to (aka scrobble). Over time, Last.fm gets a pretty good idea of what songs you like, so when I wanna discover new songs, I go to Last.fm, ask it to play me a mix, and direct it to play the songs through my Spotify. I find that its recommendations are much better than what I get from using Spotify alone.
Yep. There is even a part of the Pacific that is on the opposite side of another part of the Pacific. The Pacific is also home to Point Nemo with is the place on the ocean farthest away from land.
Woodford Reserve is my go-to. It’s not hard to find, it has a reliable taste being a blended bourbon, and is generally well regarded. They are a big sponsor of the Kentucky Derby, so it’s got some cachet across the luxury brand spectrum. However, my grandpa worked for Brown-Forman his whole life so it has an emotional connection for me and makes me a little biased.
Weller Special Reserve (green label) is pretty easy to find these days, about $50 a bottle and considered by some to be one of the more accessible PVW-adjacent bourbons.
I’ll add Booker’s to this list, if your friend enjoys sour mash flavor profiles like Jim Beam/Jack Daniels. It’s pricier, maybe over $100 now, and a bit harder to find.
Bear in mind the US also has massive gaps in their public toilet doors. They do seem to be struggling. Then again I’m from the UK, so… Yeah. Send help.
