chickenf622, in Do you pay for Discord Nitro?

I currently do because it’s not much of my current budget. Now that I’m not running any server actively I have considered cancelling. I would reactivate if I need the server boosts though.

nobleshift, in What cheap tool/gadget do you use that greatly improves your daily life?
@nobleshift@lemmy.world avatar
  • A decent pair of scissors with a coating on the blades.
  • A barometer
  • Upgrading my USB3 external drives cables (USB3 micro B) from the old A connector to C connector
  • Pocket knife
  • Rechargeable headlamp
  • KD polorized sunglasses
  • 3 meter charge cable for the phone
  • IR remote for the laptop (LibreELEC/Kodi)
  • 0.5L waterproof bag inside my backpack for electronics
  • RGB / cool & warm white LED string with remote
  • magnetic phone mount with a suction cup

I think that’s everything I use everyday under $20 without being ridiculous. And I do use each of these multiple times a day.

roostopher,

What are you using a barometer for so frequently?

nobleshift,
@nobleshift@lemmy.world avatar

I live on a cruising sailboat.

Telcontar,

That’s what I wanna know. I’d love a barometer but I cannot think of any reason why lol

Get one! Learn to predict the weather by keeping an eye on pressure changes. It could be a little hobby.

I second a headlamp. Almost mandatory if you're camping I think. I got some cheap ones and use them around the house / garage too. More useful than they seem at first glance.

blackbrook,

Long USB cables can be problematic, and to avoid problems may need to be inconveniently thick and stiff. I’ve taken to using an AC extension chord for most of the length when I need to charge far from an outlet.

I use discord to do a few text channels and chat with friends. Every nitro popup gets dismissed because I don't know what it is and have no interest in spending time figuring out some new thing I probably don't need.

Didn't even know it cost money.

I’m on Matrix because I want to be, I’m on Discord because I have to for certain communities. I’d never pay for Nitro.

thantik, in Do you pay for Discord Nitro?

The only idiots who pay for nitro are the same idiots who don’t run adblockers.

variants, in Do you pay for Discord Nitro?

I use discord almost daily but don’t need any of the nitro stuff so no

Chozo, in Do you pay for Discord Nitro?

I had free Nitro for a few years because I was a partner. Only ever used it for making my username end in . Nothing else it offers is really that useful, imo. Especially for the price.

No. Hell no.

dasgoat, in Do you pay for Discord Nitro?

I don’t see why anyone would

shinigamiookamiryuu, in Do you pay for Discord Nitro?

I did for a while, it ended right when Discord removed its username numbers feature. I used it to get a perfectly rounded-down number at the end of my username, among other things, though there’s not a lot I would use it for that I can’t live with or adapt to. On the topic of Matrix, I’m on both but think Discord is more savvy, and I use this everyday in my server which welcomes all people with friendly warmth and is suited for almost everything you might like.

I used to years ago, but I haven’t recently. I don’t hate it, I just decided I didn’t wanna pay that much per year anymore - I actually think it’s quite nice that Discord still operates off of people paying for non-essential features instead of paywalling actually useful features.

bappity, in Do you know of any obscure useful websites?
@bappity@lemmy.world avatar

http://remove.bg is a website that makes removing backgrounds from photos or artwork a lot easier! I think it uses A.I or something, it’s been super helpful for me a couple times.

RoseRose56, in Do you pay for Discord Nitro?
@RoseRose56@lemmy.world avatar

No because it’s a waste of money like Netflix etc. To be fair I saw recently on discord about new features, like pfp animation and looked great, but way way down it was written that I have to pay extra for it after I get Nitro. I wish I could buy it without Nitro.

reversebananimals, in Do you pay for Discord Nitro?

I paid for it for a few months. I did it mostly to throw them a few bucks because I have heavily used their video calling for years.

The only feature I found remotely valuable was 1080p streaming. My friends and I often do movie night on Discord, and being able to watch full-res at higher bandwidth was nice. I also used the feature that let’s you post longer messages, but I consider that bullshit because that’s just an arbitrary restriction they impose on free users to try and drum up cash.

I’ve since cancelled because I’m unhappy with the features they’ve been using my money on. I don’t care about animated profile gimmicks or crappy video call games. And I don’t like the way they shove them in your face when you open the app.

azn03, in Do you pay for Discord Nitro?

Nope. Never had it and probably never will.
