My wife carries a fold-up nylon shopping bag in her handbag everywhere we go. Useful in a surprising number of situations.

We’ve switched from petroleum plastic to cornstarch plastic bin liners in our kitchen. They’re not as sturdy (basically they start to break down the moment they get wet) but they’re solid enough to carry a week’s cooking waste out to the big bin.

Absolutely nothing other than voting. Any individual “reducing their plastic use” is just a drop in the ocean. The only meaningful change is through legislation or some economic situation. The only positive outcome of reducing your own plastic use is that warm and fuzzy feeling that you get from believing that you are doing something good.

However, I do not want to discredit that warm and fuzzy feeling. It brings people joy, and I think that is great.

Masses of individuals each making small local changes can add up to some very significant impacts.

Yes, my partner and I both. CBD is an amazing compound.

Buddahriffic, in Who is the cruelest fictional villain?

Semirhage from the Wheel of Time. She was a torture specialist who would use the one power and her knowledge as a top healer of the body and mind to use both pain and pleasure to turn her victims to the dark or send them to attack their loved ones. She was effective enough that they tended to either succeed or fail because they were found out, rather than the person deciding against it once they were free. Even those who had turned and were restored using age of Legends mind restoration techniques lived in constant fear of ever being in her hands again. They had to take special precautions to prevent prisoners from committing suicide after finding out they were being put in her charge. She was a sadist who would cause unnecessary levels of pain during her healing even before the bore was drilled and joined the dark because she was caught and offered the choice of oath rod vs violence or being severed from the source.

Though some of the other Forsaken give her a run for her money.

Graendal with her mind slaves that she would use for pleasure or just furniture.

Sammael who, when told that he was giving his prisoners of war half the food they needed to survive, immediately ordered half to be executed (and generally just fed them to the trollocs even when they had enough food).

Aginor who joined the shadow because they wouldn’t let him do the experimentation on animals and people that he wanted to. He then created the trollocs and other shadowspawn and took 10k people per day for experiments and fodder from the start of the war power to the end of it, potentially doubling that number in the last 5 years of it.

Moghedian who ran evil schools that had children at first informing on their loved ones and later carrying out their executions themselves. During the breaking of the world, these children caused chaos that seemed like they were racing against male channellers going mad to break the world.

Balthamel established breeding camps for humans to be fed to trollocs. He also had a temper that almost got him oath rodded before the war of power.

Plus just general genocide, terror, manipulation, war, and oppression by all 13 of them. These ones stand out a bit more in their cruelty. Ishamael ultimately didn’t want to be reborn anymore, Lanfear was obsessed with Lews Therin, Asmodean wanted to live forever and be a well known composer. Demandred, Be’lal, and Rhavin were jealous of Lews Therin’s success. Mesaana wanted to be a researcher. They all did evil shit and didn’t care about the people they hurt, but the ones in paragraphs above seemed to do it as the ends, rather than a means to an end.

Buddahriffic, (edited )

Oh yeah, extra tidbit about Semirhage: she discovered that 13 channellers and 13 myddraal could be used to turn a channeller without torture required. But she preferred the torture way.

Are you sure what you got was good quality? I find Massachusetts to have the best quality stuff near me. I’ve purchased from New Jersey, but have questioned the quality on occasion. Once it was bad enough that I felt pretty off for a while, and felt like I was going to pass out, but ultimately didn’t. A couple of other times I’ve been stoned and just got light headed when I stood up, but that could also just be chalked up to getting up too quickly or not hydrating enough, and might’ve happened with or without weed.

It’s possible weed just doesn’t agree with you, or a certain strain. From your other comments your doctor told you not to smoke when you brought it up. None of us should contradict your doctor’s advice, but if you’re not going to listen to that, then I’d at least suggest getting a second opinion.

doricub, in Has anyone here used CBD products for anxiety? Do they actually work or is it just a placebo?

Like any medication/supplement, your personal experience will vary. That’s a big part of why the reviews are mixed online.

I’d suggest trying one product and switching to another if you’re not feeling any changes within a couple of weeks. If the second product doesn’t work, then CBD may not work for you.

It happened to me once but it was not even for a minute. Was standing outside a party smoking a big fat joint that people were passing around and then out of a sudden I felt super light headed, lights started to go off and next thing I know I'm being carried by the person that was standing next to me, then I had another person asking if I took anything else and was ready with a narloxone but I fortunately managed to tell them that I didn't take anything else and the friends I was with knew that as well so I wasn't poked with it. Bought a gatorade and was unfortunately not let back into the venue. I think it happened because I hadn't really eaten much that day and maybe it was too much weed for my tiny body even though I have a high tolerance, I think I'd also taken one drink so taking all those things into account it wasn't super surprising. If anything my general weed tolerance is surprising.
Actually another time I don't think I passed out but was in the verge of was a 4/20 event at the beach, I took a killer edible and had smoked a bit. So also not surprising.

If you really don't want to leave it then I'd start from tiny dosages and study how it makes you feel but also make sure that your blood pressure is not too low in general before smoking. Your health and safety come first. Also don't smoke alone anymore.

Shampoo and conditioner in liter bottles, same with kitchen hand soap.

Paper bags for sandwiches and cheese.

Reusable glass containers (but we do have to replace the freaking plastic lids sometimes).

Reusing produce bags over and over until they tear.

We have not found a replacement for trash bags, doggie poop bags, plastic wrap is irreplaceable for some tasks.

You aren’t personally responsible for the market of single use plastic crap. Do what you can. Over time you figure out some strategies.

Habahnow, in What do you do to reduce your use of single use plastics?

People have offered very going advice, something not mentioned is: buying larger containers for any plastic related things I do need to buy. If I’m buying dish soap, i’m purchasing a larger container to reduce the amount of plastic I’m purchasing per unit of product. Meats and fish generally use plastic packaging. I eat a lot of beans which can be placed in your own packaging at many regular grocery stores, and generate less green house gasses then meats and fish.

LegionEris, in Has anyone here used CBD products for anxiety? Do they actually work or is it just a placebo?

Yes, I have had great experiences with cbd, with the caveat that most commercial products have too low a dose to be effective. Cbd does not dose numerically like thc. It wants much higher doses to be effective for most users. The good news is that cbd isolate is dirt cheap, less than $1/g. Get yourself some cbd isolate and some empty capsules. Dose ~100mg and go from there.

That said, I have much better experiences with CBG for daytime anxiety. I’m a glowing, golden angel with a good dose of CBG in me. I’m also so focused and productive it’s ridiculous. Seriously consider CBG and CBN for anxiety maintenance. CBN is more sedating, better for night/bedtime, also good for panic attacks in my experience.

Turbofish,

Do you have any experience with how CBD work coming from the perspective of a heavy smoker?

EmoBean,

Everything she said. Get isolate and capsules, you need a minimum 100mg, not the 10mg in OTC edibles. I’ve seen people using it for physical problems dosing multiple grams a day.

I’m also all about CBG and CBN, CBG in the morning and CBN at night. CBNo is also great.

tdawg, in What do you do to reduce your use of single use plastics?

Most people wouldn’t consider these “single use plastic” in the same way that a plastic baggie is. But I always make an effort to get glass containers for things like oil whenever possible

itsgroundhogdayagain, in Has anyone here used CBD products for anxiety? Do they actually work or is it just a placebo?

I never saw much of a difference

VintageTech, in Has anyone here used CBD products for anxiety? Do they actually work or is it just a placebo?

I really want to say yes because I love weed.

I take a prescribed medication for my anxiety, along with the support of talking to strangers about what my stresses are and that definitely helps.

I’ve used CBD for a 6mo period of time and I feel that it didn’t help the situation, but masked it during times when I would be exposed to my stressors. So if I used something throughout the week, that meant I’d have a breakdown/meltdown over the weekend where I could just eat a tub of junk food and binge watch a show. I really thought it was helping ke, but like any substance you develop a tolerance.

So I just stuck with weed, but eventually the same problem would come up where I was just masking it, but I was high and smiling all the time. Productivity kinda dropped but boy did reading become fun again.

I really hate pumping my body full of pills, and I’m not going to lie and say it’s not masking it either, but I feel like the mask is a constant while I work out my issues it a healthier way vs. just kinda sitting around in a fog.

What’s comical is that I’m finding out my cause for anxiety seems to be coming from what I think ADHD is? My inability to focus on projects and see them to completion is a HUGE stressor to me, making me anxious all the time. I think once I’m in a better headspace I’ll transition to looking into that deeper in hopes that my assumption is correct.

meco03211,

Have a lot of this myself. THC and Adderall have helped me immensely.

Kyle, in My beagle has suddenly started resource guarding random stuff. What should I do to get this behavior to stop?

Just because your parents have dogs doesn’t mean they can offer a safe environment or know what to do with them. All the changes and the environment posed for your dog are incredibly stressful for the dog. Please be compassionate that your dog is going through more than you even though you literally broke your leg and probably experienced the worst pain in your life. Changes in living situations are the biggest adjustments for dogs ever.

Please don’t listen to people suggesting anything with the word dominance, pack mentality, wolf study, punishment or anything forcefull. All of that is guaranteed to make things worse.

A certified trainer (CCPDT and the various acronyms associated, the dog academy, anyone force force free) will get you on course faster than any website or book.

If you want your dog to make it out of this, your dog has to be a priority, make it your part time job.

My quick advice if you can’t afford a trainer and will only look up free internet advice from strangers:

Start with giving them something low value to chew on in a distraction free room. Have 10 minutes worth of super high value treats. When they are chewing the low value, walk up to them and give them the treat. Let them chew on the low value again. Repeat. Try for 10 minutes at a time. Adjust value of chew and treat so they don’t react when you walk up to them.

Next session, If they start wagging their tail when you approach. Try making it harder by taking the item for 1 second then, give them the treat then give it back. Ramp up duration or value of chew and items as progress is made

All of this has to be a happy and joyful affair. You are using a happy and friendly puppy voice the whole time. The dog has to feel good about this the whole time. So make sure you and the dog are in as good of a place mentally when doing it. This will all be harder if the dog doesn’t have other prerequisites like a leave it or drop it command.

There are so many ways you need to modify the above strategy for your particular dog that I can’t stress enough how valuable you’ll find a certified force free trainer to be. A vet check might also be suggested by the trainer. I think my advice is barely scratching the surface of what to do and how to do it, I haven’t even met your dog so what do I even know? Very little!
