LordFarkWad7, in What piece of song lyric you can really relate to?

I went to the doctor

I said I’m feeling kind of rough

“Let me break it to ya son

Your shits fucked up”.

I said “my shits fucked up?

Well I don’t see how.”

He said “the shit that used to work.

Won’t work now.”

-Warren Zevon

“Daddy grips the wheel and stares alone into the distance
He knows that something somewhere has to break
He sees the family home now looming in his headlights
The pain upstairs that makes his eyeballs ache”

“Do You Believe In Shame” by Duran Duran

I heard you speak my name
Heard you singing The Stones
Maybe heard you laughing in a line of static
On my telephone

So why your eyelids are closed
Inside a case of rust
And did you have to change
All your poet’s fire into frozen dust?

I try to justify it
To learn from your mistake
But where’s the stupid lie that has to make its point
With such a pointless waste?”

Simon wrote the lyric for the song about his friend Dave Miles, who tragically died of a drug overdose.

The deadly, yellow snow from right there where the huskies go.

AceQuorthon,

conclostion

Nice.

JasSmith, in What can we do, as lemmy users, to fight fake news being pushed in the platform?

Ground.news is a great way to get your news. Don’t rely on any one platform.

trash80, in What can we do, as lemmy users, to fight fake news being pushed in the platform?

Start a fact-checking community? If you can get members who can leave politics at the door and look at things objectively.

Sensitivezombie, in What can we do, as lemmy users, to fight fake news being pushed in the platform?

Don’t follow news feeds on any social platforms including lemmy. Find a reliable source. These billion dollar platforms like Facebook can’t moderate every fake news, lemmy has no chance.

SpiderShoeCult,

It’s not that they can’t, it’s that they don’t have a need to. Enticing news, fake or otherwise, keeps people engaged, commenting, posting, starting flame wars, and they do all of it on the platform. Somebody at some point noticed that users don’t mind fake news (as in they don’t leave the platform as long as there is fake news posted there), and the potential ‘hit’ to reputation is well balanced by the boost in engagement they see.

Lemmy, on the other hand, might not have the same incentive (yet?) to keep spreading bullshit for the sake of getting firemen and arsonists locked in a neverending game.

Spzi, in What can we do, as lemmy users, to fight fake news being pushed in the platform?

Make a comment with your conclusion and how you arrived at it.

If applicable, report the post.

DragonTypeWyvern,

Yep, and you might get clowned on in the comments, fairly or unfairly, but all you can do in any media aggregate forum is fact check and try to debunk.

Carter, in Do you pay for Discord Nitro?

Of course not why would I?

tankplanker, in What do you like about the vehicle you drive and would you have changed anythin about it?

23 plate Hyundai Ioniq 5 Premium Long Range.

Likes:

Getting 4 to 4.5 miles to kwh out of what is quite a large car by European standards. Costs approx. 9p a kw in the UK on an EV tariff so it costs a fraction of what an ICE car would cost to run.

350kw charging, I rarely wait longer than 20 minutes to charge from 20% to 80%

Tons of space.

Single pedal driving is awesome

Tows my 1400kg caravan with ease due to 100% of torque from 0 rpm and weighing 2 ton (more the car weighs compared to the trailer the better towing is, assuming enough torque). Even big Range Rovers aren’t as smooth towing from stand still.

Same trait means its quick when driving round town or from a standstill. Above UK legal speeds its average for its price point.

Its also much much quieter than its ICE competitors.

Comfy on a long journey, like driving round sitting on a sofa.

Dislikes

Weighs 2 tons. Car it replaced was 1500kg and similar external size. Would like it to weigh less, but all new cars the same size, even ICE, are pretty fat these days. A brand new ICE 3 Series is also almost 2 ton with a few options on it and comparable usable space/purchase price.

Handling when hustling is compromised by the car being aimed at comfort and how fat it is. If you want handling buy the new performance model, its also stupid fast as it has 640bhp.

UK spec for this year has no heat pump for the battery even as an option, would be useful for improving winter mileage. Irish version of the same car has it as standard (at least for my model year and trim level), despite Ireland being warmer during the winter than the UK. Heat pump is now available as an option.

UK spec Premium cannot have memory seats, have to upgrade to a much more expensive trim level that has a ton of stuff I do not want or need. Same with the 360 cameras, I only get rear camera. Locking stuff behind a much more expensive trim level is a dick move.

Exusia, in Do you pay for Discord Nitro?

I do. Full subscription. Originally I had Basic, but with banners and stuff being added I thought “ah fuck why not?” I spend a lot of time on the platform as staff for a large server, and frequent 2 or 3 others so I’m much more visible as a flagship and interacting with users than most normal users. I dont feel like the average user needs full nitro, but I can break down how I use/see the various features.

spoilerI dropped my 2 boosts on some friends servers, our server is partnered and doesn’t need them, and I feel like boosts are…a silly money extraction tbh. I use animated emotes frequently and emotes from other servers (and animated emotes from other servers) so that feature is worth it. Increased file size is a godsend. I know this is artificially restricted and discord could be less stingy for free people, but for paid getting bigger uploads has helped tremendously when I have to use modmail on various servers. Send image proof? Easy. Video evidence? Done and done with that increased limit. Banner? I like it tbh. Not necessary but I like it. In tandem with this is setting my own colors for profile. I have never once used Remix. Super Emojis has got to be the dumbest fucking thing I have ever heard of. You get like 5 per week, and is the first feature I go out of my way to use so I can justify its existence. Dumb as hell. Streaming is nice. I dont usually use it but it is nice to be able to stream in our channels at max. I feel like this one is artificially gimped by Discord to get you to pay, so YMMV. I don’t use this feature often.
