The ones primarily filled with assholes. Hexbear and Lemmygrad for now.

skozzii,

All this furry crap that keeps popping up.

I don’t have plans to block any. I’ve already blocked the active communities in some of the instances I might consider blocking in whole to the point I never see posts from those instances anyway as well as any individual problem user I run across. I don’t really see a reason to block an entire server because even the worst places have some good people, just like all the best places still have some shitty people. Unless the instance itself was dedicated to CP or something.

None right now.

I block communities, not groups of users. I usually don’t have a problem with the actual users on an instance, I mostly just want to avoid porn (I don’t use lemmy for that, nothing wrong with it, though)

The only instance I would block is Threads but my instance admin is doing that already.

Personally I block political stuff they can do whatever they want, and I can be political sometimes, but personally I limit those things for my own good. Not to mention, political stuff here is way too US centric.

None. Probably.

LegionEris,

None. I wish I could see more content. Not enough is made of the fact that you only see content your instance is already connected to. Part of my frustration with the platform is that I joined a neutral instance to have as much content as possible, but relatively little of it is shuffled to me in the all feed. I like discovering new things online. I hate the catch 22 of federation content access, where being on a large enough instance to be certain you’re well connected means being on an instance that has blocked a lot of content to appease its larger userbase.

Fiivemacs,

I prefer to block residents and not entire neighbourhoods.

kool_newt,

Many of these are self-selecting neighborhoods though, these are not the result of oppressive policies.

Peppycito, (edited )

Block’m all. My blocked list is so long it’s probably worth something. It’s way longer now since sync started showing porn.

Block’m All

🤣

Peppycito,

I treat this place as reverse reddit. You can’t browse by subscribed because then you see 4 posts. But it’s hard to find the communities I might like. So I browse by all and block things I don’t want to see like foreign language, tentacle porn and Linux communities. That way I still see new communities I might like and get an endless scroll.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

Same for me. All>New Comments. Treat it like an old PHPBB forum because everything at the top got there because someone recently commented.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

LemmyNSFW (nothing against it, but I’m not here for that)

Hexbear

These are the only two

ultra, (edited )

same but + lemmygrad and threads

LinkOpensChest_wav,

My instance already blocks those, otherwise I’d add those as well

ultra,

Beehaw, actually. It’s a space for LGBTQ+++ people and I don’t need to be in their space. Edit: I also completely disagree with their philosophy, so it’s better for everyone if we keep ourselves separated.

    I disagree with the instance’s philosophy. I think “be nice” leads to a lot of unintended consequences and echo chambering. Edit to add: One of the Seven Tenets of The Satanic Temple is: “The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one’s own.”. I don’t go out of my way to troll; however, I feel that Beehaw’s instance philosophy does not align with the idea that we have the freedom to offend with our own opinions.

    Conversely, I am not LGBTQ+ and I don’t need to be in their space. They get to deal with normies all the time in everyday life.

    LegionEris,

    Conversely, I am not LGBTQ+ and I don’t need to be in their space. They get to deal with normies all the time in everyday life.

    Tbh this experience explains the be nice rule. We often get to be treated badly in everyday life. Many of us experience a passive level of hostility and interrogation just out in the world living our lives. A portion of people internalize a portion of what they hear, which leads to hostility and conflict within the community. To counter the flow of outside hate into the group, many LGBTQ+ communities have that sort of blanket tone rule. When you’re sorting out that you’re a different and controversial type of person, it’s important to have a space to express yourself without intense scrutiny. You need a place where it is safe to be wrong, because you’re often declared wrong and attacked just for being there, so you can’t judge your own thoughts and feelings. It’s important that people in that position can be helped and directed without being stifled. Otherwise the true form of the self can be lost to self defense conformity.

    PriorityMotif,

    I have an account on that instance and one of the admins is constantly posting stuff and shutting down any conversation that they don’t personally like. It was nice for awhile, but that admin is super annoying.

    willya,
    @willya@lemmyf.uk avatar

    Been my experience as well.

    didnt_readit,

    At first probably just the nsfw instances since I’m not here for porn and foreign language instances since I can’t really interact with them anyway. That alone should help clean up my feed a lot. After that no idea, I’m normally fine just blocking individual communities but if I see an instance where I’m seemingly blocking all their communities, I’ll just block the instance.

    ultra,

    Does the option also block users? That would be bad in this case

    didnt_readit,

    I’m honestly not sure. I only just heard that instance blocking was coming with this update. I’m not sure if it’s like defederating (aka complete block) or just blocks their communities or what.

    owatnext,
    @owatnext@lemmy.world avatar

    All the NSFW ones that I can think of. I hate that some of their posts aren’t tagged properly, so when I look at the All feed they slip in there. )=
