I don’t understand why I thought these Garfield comics were so hilarious as a kid. I read several of the books cover to cover, cracking up the entire time. I’ve been reading 1-2 of them per day on Lemmy for a couple of months now, and I don’t think I’ve been even mildly amused a single time.

Maultasche,

Maybe because this is very early Garfield. I think the best ones were from the mid 80s to the mid 90s.

Anticorp,

Oh that probably explains it then. It was in the 80’s that I enjoyed it.

I loved them as a kid too and it’s been pretty hit or miss so far. I will say that I remember the comic got much better after the first year or two. Not sure if I’ll still feel that way now and we have a ways to go as we’re still in the first year.

Garfield’s cheeks are big enough to hold one lasagnum.

EmoDuck, in 25 November 1978

John, lasagna isn’t cat food and your cat is morbidly obese

It’s weird seeing Jon with the thought bubble.

Mahlzeit, in 2 December 1978

Took me way too long to figure out what they meant by code. Of course, it’s FORTRAN. It’s 1978.

0ops,

My first thought was about Gabe Newell and steam codes or something

Lyman now has that cold

tacosanonymous, in 4 December 1978

Classic.

Ah Yes back in the days when pretty much everyone knew how to play a musical instrument.

This joke might be lost on modern people.

LemmyKnowsBest, in 28 November 1978

Jim Davis sure drew Garfield like a miserable schlub in the early years.

glad he transformed into slightly more adorable, a bit less schlubby over the years.

LemmyKnowsBest, in 6-19-1978

I’m looking forward to the one where Jon tells Garfield, “Hey you’ve got something stuck between your teeth.”

" What? "

“The refrigerator.”

CluckN, in 5 December 1978

John you dumb sack of shit you can’t bring a cat, especially such a known menace as Garfield, into a grocery store.

casmael, in 7 December 1978

LemmyKnowsBest,

Is Garfield Minus Garfield on Lemmy yet?

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA,
@HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world avatar

Heathcliff minus Heathcliff is

LemmyKnowsBest,

I know but I’ve even asked the same question there. Why will nobody answer me about Garfield minus Garfield?

pimento64,

Don’t worry about it bro

CluckN, in 7 December 1978

The entire pastry section? Garfield’s hubris knows no bounds that’s over 10,000 calories that a cat should not be consuming.

pimento64, in 8 December 1978

That’s from 1992

LemmyKnowsBest,

Wait a minute, why do you think it’s from 1992? Garfield is drawn in his old schlubby style from the olden days, and it even says “1978” underneath the second pane.

pimento64,

I’m in your walls

Thanks for letting me know! Not sure how I grabbed the wrong one, but fixed now.
