That's not how you tackle a house. You are suppose to reach around and tickle it's balls first.

Remember back then it was more like rugby. *Forward pass was introduced in 1906, maybe this is why they’re testing helmets.

Olap,

No helmets in rugby still though!

someguy3,

There are, don’t know which levels wear them. They are simple padded helmets. Good for jostling, not for collisions.

Olap,

Scrum caps. Worn at all levels. Padding around the ears to prevent caulie lug

Hard helmets are forbidden in rugby.

jayemar, in Testing a prototype football helmet, 1912

That’s a heck of a photo given what they had to work with in 1912!

Scubus, in Testing a prototype football helmet, 1912

Ah, so this is when the cybermen were created.

SquiffSquiff, in Testing a prototype football helmet, 1912

Sadly almost certainly a fake photo. Issues with how you’d get such a sharp image of anyone in motion in 1912 aside, look at the shadows and see where the light is coming from:

  • Our boys with the hats are lit from the right
  • The slats on the building are lit from top right

Now look at battering ram’s helmet, especially where it meets the wall. Where’s the shadow? Where would you expect the shadow to be?

dangblingus,

I want some of what you’re smoking. The lighting source looks 100% consistent to me. Literally the right side of everything is consistently illuminated. I would expect to see battering ram’s helmet shadow to be against the wall. There it is. Also, battering ram isn’t in motion. He’s definitely stopped moving at this point.

Question to those who are cringe here, would these not be Wehrmacht conscripts, unlikely to be politically aligned to the National Socialists. It’s 1942, and presumably front line troops, during Germany’s backfoot of November to December.

The bulk of volunteers was from 36-39, but Germany forced conscripts till the end of the war sooooooo. Act like a fucking human being and respect the dead.

Kusimulkku,

Wermacht was fairly politically aligned. The individual soldier might’ve not been politically aligned but I wouldn’t really mind Wermacht troops being labeled Nazi troops.

What do you call someone who's 'brave' enough to fight for genocide, but not brave enough to fight against it?

A fucking Nazi.

Bondrewd,

Does that mean that you parttaking in an exploitative society by contributing taxes and work hours to its economy makes you a capitalist pig?

If you think of it its pretty easy. Just dont work for them and dont pay taxes. If you think deserting to the soviets who most likely just put you in some kind of barn and starve you/send you back on the front as a human wave is acceptable it must surely not be that bad to not be a scourge on society.

There's a world of difference between serving as a soldier and serving as a worker.

Great Nazi apologia. "The alternative is possibly dying q.q so it's better to fight and possibly die for genocide instead!"

Bondrewd,

You are gravely mistaken. Im not raising pillaging Eastern front troops to your throne of righteousness, Im pushing the rest of the pretentious fuckers closer to theirs.

Wermacht soldiers, most likely the majority, were the guys who got pulled into the doings of the Nazi regime. Not nazis, coerced into nazi biddings. I cant call them nazies with a serious face.

If you look at average low wage voters in Murica, dont tell me you are seriously thinking of people who got their shit together enough and have a coherent enough world view. Fuck no.

The SS? Those were pretty directly driven to methodical extermination and such. They are more deserving of the word nazies.

The Wehrmacht was Nazi from top to bottom

Bondrewd,

Tell me statistics. You state it was Nazi top to bottom. The article states “many officers and average soldiers”. The latter is closer to what I stated.

PugJesus,
@PugJesus@kbin.social avatar

According to Heer, ‘60 to 80 per cent’ of German soldiers who fought on the eastern front participated in war crimes.

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/341229466_Crimes_of_the_Wehrmacht_A_Re-evaluation

Bondrewd,

Understandable, thank you! I was guessing 20-30% with it being higher among officers, but I do not read that much on it.

Although I still cant be convinced on you really getting what “fighting for” and “better choice” means in this context.

I lived by myself for years without much of a social interaction in my usual week or month and very often had the most fucked up thoughts in that deprived state.

Are they nazis when viewed as part of the system? Can be argued. On a personal level? Locked in their little miserable bubble? Suicidal and homicidal come hand in hand. I dont think they had any advanced thoughts on it in the winter on the steppes while their hand froze to ice. They were deprived, fucked up murderers.

You see, Hans, if we act surprised, maybe they won’t hang us for thinking we are insane.

Claus, we are in the Eastern front POW camp. We are all gonna die.
