Pog, This reads like a thinly veiled pro-China pro-north Korea propaganda post ngl
BradPittIsGod, Couldn’t care less about those countries
HumanBehaviorByBjork, Today I learned of the Pyongyang Metro. Their trains are really cute!
HenriVolney, The USA are not America
BradPittIsGod, (edited ) Well, if you are going to feel better I can post a picture of the subway in the Cartel of Medellin 🤣🤣🤣🤣
HenriVolney, Doesn’t work with your title, mate
yeather, Bad meme, id you want to dunk on the US find a better angle than obvious propaganda.
BradPittIsGod, Not mine ;)
MolochAlter, You not making it doesn’t make it not propaganda.
Arguably most times propaganda is spread are by people other than the authors.
Yerbouti, The only way to truly experience the Montreal’s subway is through the smell.
Philharmonic3, Of all things America sucks at, the NYC subway is not the thing to attack. Fuck cars
ieightpi, Agreed. We are lucky to have that. Also I’m pretty sure that the photos were chosen to show off the worse of the US subway system in NYC. I remember riding it once and thought it was pretty clean.
I guarantee that someone could do the same for the other subway systems if they should choose too.
thecrotch, I remember riding it once and thought it was pretty clean.
The smell takes some getting used to but that’s kind of Manhattan in general
ieightpi, It was winter when I visited. That probably helped
cyclohexane, The issue isn’t the presence of a subway system, but rather the need for more funding, care and attention.
ekZepp, (edited ) You forgot London Subway.
Grass, Mind the gap
ReakDuck, Omg I even dreamed that after hearing this non stop on the class vacation. It follows you through the day and dream.
Grass, Some of the stations have a frighteningly large gap. I didn’t take it seriously until I almost fell in one.
ReakDuck, Oh thats actually something to keep in mind 🤡
ReakDuck, Btw
ComradePedro, They didn’t. The UK isn’t cummunist enough
ekZepp, … ? Cummunist? It is some kind of fetish?
dutchkimble, Cummunist on fascist
ComradePedro, Yes. It’s when you seize the means of reproduction.
Grayox, https://lemmy.ml/pictrs/image/5a61e41f-4c4a-4256-8a54-8dfe391aa3c1.jpeg make better agi prop, the US has the most gorgeous metro system in the world. Facts dont care about your feelings. (If you dont like brutalist architecture you probably wont like it and I’m sorry)
Artyom, I distinctly remember having to stop and admire the station the first time I went through there.
neptune, This metro system doesn’t have enough parallel track to allow for night time operation or maintenance.
AdrianTheFrog, the Vienna metro (u bahn) is neat because it has a very wide range of architectural styles
Neato, Yeah. DC has some very pretty metro stations. NYC has SO MANY stops in Manhattan it was silly when visiting.
MacNCheezus, Ahem, have you seen the Moscow subway?

pingveno, In case anyone is wondering, that’s Komsomolskaya station, built in 1952. Later stations tended to not be so opulent.
yogthos,
pingveno, I think I owe you an apology. I took your initial comment as you trying to insult me, given our past interactions. Not that I wasn’t giving an honest opinion on the design itself, but otherwise I would have just kept it to myself.
pingveno, (edited ) That’s not opulent, that’s just bad taste. The other one was absolutely beautiful.
yogthos, Certainly better taste than anything your shithole has to offer.
pingveno, None of the design elements work with each other, to start with. Then it’s like after the fact, some shmuck from the propaganda office told the architects to stick a stupid looking fighter jet in there. It’s like a weak man’s idea of a strong design.
yogthos, I’ve never read a more sour comment in my life. Thanks for letting me know how much you’re seething and coping there.
Grayox, It really doesnt have a cohesive design motif to it and does feel like strongman propaganda.
yogthos, I mean, obviously it’s nowhere close to Soviet designs in terms of quality, but we’re comparing with US here.
Grayox, Feels a little bougie if you ask me, but to each their own.
MacNCheezus, Funny you’d say that, because even though the first plans for it date back to the Russian Empire, it was the communists under Stalin who actually built it.
AndrasKrigare, *New York City
Other metro systems look way nicer, looking through the images on a “American subway station” search
whenigrowup356, In all of Vietnam there are currently two active metro lines, one of which is only partially complete.
I hope it improves. Many lines are under construction but all of the projects have been plagued by delays for years.
But why would you include this as an example here?
MolochAlter, Because OP is a propagandist shill.
OurToothbrush, Tbf Vietnam has a hard time building lines given all the unexploded ordinance that the US left
Veedem, By annual ridership, the New York City Subway is the busiest rapid transit system in both the Western Hemisphere and the Western world, as well as the eleventh-busiest rapid transit rail system in the world.[18] The subway carried 1,793,073,000 riders in 2022.[6]: 2 [note 5] On October 29, 2015, more than 6.2 million people rode the subway system, establishing the highest single-day ridership since ridership was regularly monitored in 1985.[20]
The system is also one of the world’s longest. Overall, the system contains 248 miles (399 km) of routes,[10] translating into 665 miles (1,070 km) of revenue track[10] and a total of 850 miles (1,370 km) including non-revenue trackage.[11] Of the system’s 28 routes or “services” (which usually share track or “lines” with other services), 25 pass through Manhattan, the exceptions being the G train, the Franklin Avenue Shuttle, and the Rockaway Park Shuttle.
The NYC system was built a century ago and operates at an astonishing level considering its for one city and is so relatively inexpensive.
Enk1, And this appears to be a shot of a closed station that appears to be lit by flashlight - my guess is someone urbexing an abandoned station. There are quite a few stations in NYC that have been closed in the past century and aren’t well maintained. Some are still passed by active trains even though there’s no longer a stop there.
Im_old, The underground stations in Prague are great as well!
balderdash9, (edited ) Easy to have high speed rail when a dictator makes all the decisions and doesn’t have to worry about political opposition or profitability. (Talking about China in case it wasn’t obvious.)
edit: Yes, the U.S. need to improve its infrastructure. But don’t compare us to the likes of China since their form of government gives them an advantage when it comes to large government-backed projects.
Im_old, Yes, but… London has great underground network qnd service as well without the dictatorship. France too. Stockholm as well. Sorry, your argument is based on one data point only.
balderdash9, I’m not even sure you know what my argument is. I haven’t articulated a full point so I think there’s some filling in the gaps going on. But what I wrote up above (without people reading into it) is factual.
vzq, France doesn’t. Paris does.
pozbo, (edited ) Here’s another point for ya; age.
London (it’s geographical location)has been a living space and communal hub since 43CE, maybe if we give America a thousand years or so they will also build public transportation.
TaTTe, “The great London underground, established 1043 CE.”
pozbo, No, sadly it was much later than that. It’s like saying “shaq can dunk but this stupid fucking infant over there can’t even dribble the ball”. Yes, great point I am so enlightened.
Gazumi, Hold tight! That trickle down money is on the next train!
