Genocide is bad, it’s hypocritical for the US to get so freaky over this when there’s an active genocide happening but that doesn’t mean it’s wrong to get freaky over maritime trade vessels being threatened. They were breaking international law and were told explicitly by the UN among others to knock it the fuck off or there would be consequences.
