Wistful, in Google-hosted malvertising leads to fake Keepass site that looks genuine
@Wistful@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

That’s kinda crazy, as it would look like a speck on the screen. I wish I could see the actual site, and see if there is something else sus about it. When I download important things like password managers, I usually try to be extra careful, double check the URL and do the hash check.

schwim, in Google forced to reveal users' search histories in Colorado court ruling
@schwim@reddthat.com avatar

I always use Google anonymously as I always find alternative search engines to be lacking. Even without personalized search results, Google always works better for me.

sadreality,

Not even true anymore...

But if SEO trash is good enough for you, that is a nice cope

schwim,
@schwim@reddthat.com avatar

On the plus side, I meet less people like you when using their service, so it’s worth it to me.

sadreality,

Why is u hurt tho?

I’ve been using duck duck go for a while, and I’ve got a fresh Linux install on another machine I’m using as a server and I went to look something up. I was 2 pages in, thinking “ddg isn’t great, but this is ridiculous”, and I remembered i was on Google

Google has seriously fallen off lately

amnesiac, in What's the best privacy friendly way to use discord on android ?
@amnesiac@lemmy.world avatar

I use it in Work profile.

netchami,

I used to do that before, but work profiles on Android 14 kinda suck, so I am trying out Aliucord right now, so far I’m pretty happy with it

boatswain, in (Please see comments)Alternatives to Signal if they exit EU due to ending E2EE

VeilidChat is not out yet, but development seems to be moving quickly; it’s one to keep an eye on

baggins, in What do you think about MX Linux
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

Been using it on all 3 of my machines for the last few months. I used to always end up back on Mint but about a year ago that started crapping out on things. MX just works for me. One thing about all distros (that I’ve tried anyway) lately, is that they don’t see the wifi card in my small Beelink PC. So it’s plugged in. Windows did see it, but I wiped that and installed Linux not long after I bought it. Had a couple of issues with KDE and it wouldn’t wake from sleep so back to XFCE. Not too heavily customised but it seems to be a keeper for my main machine - the Beelink. I have a Lenovo Ideapad that currently has Manjaro on - might try vanilla Debian on that. The other machine is an ancient HP laptop - MX XFCE will be staying on that until it craps out for good.

Mohamad20ZX,

Thanks i hope you loved like me as well

Kalcifer, (edited ) in (Please see comments)Alternatives to Signal if they exit EU due to ending E2EE

I have little to comment on regarding the motivation for your post – I am not up to date with what’s happening in the EU – but, for an encrypted messaging-app alternative to Signal, I can recommend Matrix.

DIgdeeper…lol. Guy is an insane alarmist who is maybe a flat-earther or something.

tpWinthropeIII, in What do you think about MX Linux

Works great for me. I’m running mx23 after running mx19 for a few years.

I hope mx23 is better with updates, or making easier to update, as updates broke in mx19 not long after I first installed it. My only complaint. Otherwise great.

zeekaran, in Top Matrix Clients (2023).

I’ve been quite happy with Schildi, both Android and browser.

qaz, in Cheap Cloud/Photo Storage: BackBlaze + Rclone + Round Sync

I’m currently using Backblaze for container backups using an Rclone crypt and can recommend it.

Gush, in OmitMe - Your Privacy-Centric, Easily Extendable Data Deletion Solution
@Gush@lemmy.ml avatar

I’ll be waiting for the GUI cuz i’m kinda stupid. How does it work if discord rate limits you btw? Are you able to modify the milliseconds of the deletion rate of messages?

Ward,
@Ward@lemmy.nz avatar

Currently it delays if discord issues a rate limit.

praise_idleness, in Cheap Cloud/Photo Storage: BackBlaze + Rclone + Round Sync

I have no experience with Roundsync but I’ve been using FolderSync and it’s just freaking amazing. All the knobs and dials you can turn is really amazing. Rsync is nice but we all know we need more than that. It’s not FOSS but it’s too good not to use. You should definitely check it out!

The totally unbiased website run by a Brave employee?

AI_toothbrush,

Lol librewolf is still the best on it

MangoPenguin,

The tests are in a public github repo, it doesn’t seem like they’re hiding anything.

people_are_cute,
@people_are_cute@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Brave browser itself is in a public GitHub repo.

smeg,

I don’t think the author is trying to be biased, but if you actually work on the code of one browser then you will (consciously or otherwise) write tests that focus on the same issues you consider when developing it.

Also I doubt Brave would let one of their employees run a website that didn’t paint it in a good light!

Infiltrated_ad8271,
@Infiltrated_ad8271@kbin.social avatar

I suspect that might be the case with the two sections for corp specific trackers, they seem to focus on some feature of brave. I wonder if firefox and tor mitigate it differently.

apis, in Privacy respecting language learning tool?

How about a textbook with accompanying audio?

pound_heap,

Yeah, I see many suggestions to do just that. Might be a good time to go check a local library.

apis,

If you’re lucky, your library may have a language lab. They’d be far less common now that we all carry access to tutorials in our pockets, but those that existed are unlikely to have been ripped out.

Then, some countries run language learning institutes abroad with classes at all levels, group or individual, from basic conversation for fun through to examined courses in specialised language for people who are fluent or near fluent (medical French, engineering Spanish, business German, etc.). These would also have decent libraries if the idea of a course doesn’t appeal.

For online study, EDx hosts a lot of language courses run by leading universities. These are typically free unless you wish to sit a proctored exam to obtain certification of the level you attain.
