Nothing aside from losing any traffic if people don’t know the IP address directly to the server. All a domain does is redirect traffic to the website with an easy to remember name.

000,

The domain is pretty important to Lemmy. If you lose control of it, your instance is effectively dead since the federation will not recognize your traffic until you get the domain back. There’s no way to change the domain of an instance so you’d have to start from scratch.

I've had no issues generating random domains on freenom, not sure why you'd think they stopped

Youll have to access it by its IP I suppose.

eluvatar, in Should I use Restic, Borg, or Kopia for container backups?

I use a k8s Cron job to execute backups with Kopia. The manifest is here

Even on peertube with no algorithms it is required to have a thumbnail with exaggerated emotions?

No, it’s because they are on Youtube too.

No, peertube is a YouTube alternative. Videos must be manually uploaded over a server which is them federated to other servers. Like Reddit vs Lemmy or Xitter vs mastodon

    ObsidianZed,

It’s also possible they create and upload the same content in both locations but have to target the larger YouTube demographic via clickbait thumbnails.

    Player2,

You can use the dearrow extension to replace clickbait

ptrckstr, in Should I use Restic, Borg, or Kopia for container backups?

Im using borgmatic, a wrapper around Borg that has some extra functionality.

Very happy with it, does exactly as advertised.

.ovh domains are like $2/year, if that helps.

What’s with the thumbnail? Cheezy af.

    hightrix,

Yea. I see a clickbait thumbnail like this and just scroll on.

hazeebabee, in How to selfhost a llm?

Sounds like a really cool project, sadly i dont have much knowledge to contribute. Still, what kind of issues have you run into? Any specific errors or problems?

Maybe Serge would fit your use case.

c10l, in How to selfhost a llm?

It’s pretty easy with Ollama. Install it, then ollama run mistral-7b (or another model, there’s a few available ootb). ollama.ai

    Another option is Llamafile. github.com/Mozilla-Ocho/llamafile

pacjo, in Should I use Restic, Borg, or Kopia for container backups?

For me it’s restic with creatic wrapper, apprise for notifications and some bash / systemd scripts to make it all connected.

Everything is in a config file, just as god intended.

I don’t use unraid by my advice for everyone is that you can’t have too many backups of data that you really care about, use the 3-2-1 rule at a minimum.

Also, welcome to your new hobby you will love and hate at the same time sometimes :D

Unraid is great, I use it daily. I grew past it in some aspects, but it’s a great starter OS.

Agree with other commenter. Don’t discount backups. Unraid is not a backup. Plan to lose all of your data someday.
