Nothing aside from losing any traffic if people don’t know the IP address directly to the server. All a domain does is redirect traffic to the website with an easy to remember name.
The domain is pretty important to Lemmy. If you lose control of it, your instance is effectively dead since the federation will not recognize your traffic until you get the domain back. There’s no way to change the domain of an instance so you’d have to start from scratch.
No, peertube is a YouTube alternative. Videos must be manually uploaded over a server which is them federated to other servers. Like Reddit vs Lemmy or Xitter vs mastodon
It’s also possible they create and upload the same content in both locations but have to target the larger YouTube demographic via clickbait thumbnails.
Sounds like a really cool project, sadly i dont have much knowledge to contribute. Still, what kind of issues have you run into? Any specific errors or problems?
I don’t use unraid by my advice for everyone is that you can’t have too many backups of data that you really care about, use the 3-2-1 rule at a minimum.
