starwarsmemes
@starwarsmemes@lemmy.world
Hello there. Somehow, Star Wars memes have returned. It’s not a trap, this is where the fun begins.
==========
Other universes to visit:
Separatist systems:
Oh hey some real SW content for a change (perhaps):
==========
IMPORTANT
Please do not post the “good friend” or similar copypasta
==========
Our galactic citizens have requested more specific rules, so here are a few.
The general idea is, if you’re looking here for rules, you’re probably someone who doesn’t need to have them spelled out. You’re fine. But anyway:
- This is a community for Star Wars memes. This means typically screenshots of Star Wars media with some text or context that’s meant to be funny and/or thoughtful. All SW media is welcome: movies, games, comic books, fanart… Other kinds of content, like video links or meta memes (about this community, or Lemmy), are fine as well, just keep it on topic.
- We are all friends here, and love (sometimes love to hate) Star Wars. Be nice to each other.
- As fans of fictional media, we can be passionate. If you very strongly disagree with something or someone, take a deep breath before reacting. Anger leads to the dark side!
- Everything in Star Wars has happened a long time ago, in a galaxy far away, and it’s a rich universe of millions of words and millions of years of history. So current Earthly matters really shouldn’t concern us here. In other words, leave politics, philosophies and convictions behind the door. This applies even if it’s about something related to Star Wars.
- Original content is preferred. Reposts are fine, just please limit to a maximum of 3 per day, per citizen. It is recommended, but not required, to mark original memes as (OC) and reposts as (repost).
- Local mods are the Jedi council. They may take actions that are necessary to maintain peace and stability of the Republic, even beyond the rules outlined here. Follow their guidance.
- Regular rules of the Lemmy.world instance apply.
datahoarder
@datahoarder@lemmy.ml
Who are we?
We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data – legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they’re sure it’s done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.
We are one. We are legion. And we’re trying really hard not to forget.

garfield
@garfield@lemmy.world
Hello fellow Garfield fans!
About this community and how I post the comic strip… The comics are posted in chronological order on the day (usually) they were released. Posting them to match the release date adds a bit of fun and nostalgia to match the experience of reading them in the newspaper for first time. Many moons ago, I would ask my Dad to save the newspaper for me everyday so I could read my favorite comic strips. It really sucked when I missed a day. Only years later, when I got the books was I able to catch up on the missed strips.
Garfield is an American comic strip created by Jim Davis. Originally published locally as Jon in 1976, then in nationwide syndication from 1978 as Garfield, it chronicles the life of the title character Garfield the cat, his human owner Jon Arbuckle, and Odie the dog. As of 2013, it was syndicated in roughly 2,580 newspapers and journals and held the Guinness World Record for being the world’s most widely syndicated comic strip… Read more: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garfield

Bloom County is an American comic strip by Berkeley Breathed which originally ran from December 8, 1980, until August 6, 1989. It examined events in politics and culture through the viewpoint of a fanciful small town in Middle America, where children often have adult personalities and vocabularies and where animals can talk. On July 12, 2015, Breathed started drawing Bloom County again. The first revived strip was published via Facebook on July 13, 2015… Read more: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloom_County

misleadingthumbnails
@misleadingthumbnails@lemmy.ca
Links from posts on Lemmy, for which there is a misleading thumbnail.
Friends from other places:
How to make a post?
- For the link, use the original image or website link from the other post
- For the title, describe what the subject of the thumbnail appears to be, and don’t describe the full-size image in any way.
- Add a link to the original post in the post body or comments (to help people discover new content and communities)
Detailed Description, based off the description from the subreddit:
A place to share links that, when posted to Lemmy, generate a thumbnail that misleads people into seeing something entirely different than what the full-size image ends up being. This almost always occurs in an unexpected fashion, where shrinking down an image to thumbnail-size suddenly creates an illusion one would not have expected.
Note that your particular front-end or app may cause the illusion to be different!
Rules
Please use the report button on posts that don’t fit the theme!
- Only post images where the Lemmy thumbnail creates a unique optical illusion, causing the subject in the thumbnail to appear to be something totally different from the subject in the full-size image. Some content will be better off posted to different communities.
- No images that are essentially what you say they are.
- No images that are intentionally set up to mislead or intentionally designed to look like your post title. This includes AI generated illusions.
- Do not post images that are screenshots or that have superimposed text.
- No NSFW posts for now

- Instance-wide TOS: legal.lemmy.world/tos/
- Lemmy code of conduct: join-lemmy.org/docs/code_of_conduct.html::: :::spoiler 2. Be civil
- Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
- Do not harrass or attack members of the community for any reason.
- Leave remarks of “peasantry” to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.

- These rules are somewhat loosened when the subject is a public figure. Still, do not attack their person or incite harrassment. :::
- Post Linux-related content- Including Unix and BSD. - Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of
sudo
in Windows. - No porn. Even if you watch it on a Linux machine.

newcommunities
@newcommunities@lemmy.world
A place to post new communities all over Lemmy for discovery and promotion.
Rules
The rules may be more established as time goes on, but it’s important to have a foundation to work on.
1. Follow the rules of Lemmy.world - These rules are the same as Mastodon.world’s rules, which can be found here.
2. Include a community title and description in your post title. - A following example of this would be New Communities - A place to post new communities all over Lemmy for discovery and promotion.
3. Follow the formatting. - The formatting as included below is important for people getting universal links across Lemmy as easily as possible.
Formatting
Please include this following format in your post:
[link text](/c/community@instance.com)
This provides a link that should work across instances, but in some cases it won’t
You should also include either:
or instance.com/c/community
FAQ:
Q: Why do I get a 404?
A: At least one user in an instance needs to search for a community before it gets fetched. Searching for the community will bring it into the instance and it will fetch a few of the most recent posts without comments. If a user is subscribed to a community, then all of the future posts and interactions are now in-sync.
Q: When I try to create a post, the circle just spins forever. Why is that?
A: This is a current known issue with large communities. Sometimes it does get posted, but just continues spinning, but sometimes it doesn’t get posted and continues spinning. If it doesn’t actually get posted, the best thing to do is try later. However, only some people seem to be having this problem at the moment.

mildlyinteresting
@mildlyinteresting@lemmy.world
This is for strictly mildly interesting material. If it’s too interesting, it doesn’t belong. If it’s not interesting, it doesn’t belong.
This is obviously an objective criteria, so the mods are always right. Or maybe mildly right? Ahh… what do we know?
Just post some stuff and don’t spam.
