Yeah that’s very true… Heck like you said that’s a lot of money… You could.have started selling 100s at a time for much lower years prior… it would have been easier, 100 a day of Bitcoin being sold would raise flags and you’d still make absolute stupid money.
Tldr They started charging 3rd party apps to use their API. The API that they had been using for ages and ages. They were shady about the timeline and their communication to devs was awful. So most 3rd party apps decided to end support as opposed to paying reddit.
Basically they wanted to make sure all users were seeing ads before their IPO.
I was a relay for reddit guy for ~10 years. Once the subscription update hit I uninstalled and moved to boost for lemmy.
I think I might cancel. I’m not watching ads and I’m not going to pay the extra $3/mo to opt out. I don’t know if I’d end up paying more than the subscription cost in shipping though…...
Man I just moved to the arr’s I’m a Usenet guy… but torrents are the same deal… I added overseerr on top of that and all I do now is “request” it on overseerr and blamonit appears on my Plex server.
For example if you wanted to download all of the seasons of say… SpongeBob. With overseerr it’s literally 1. search for the show 2. click request and wait.
Super easy, barely an inconvenience Check out trash guides and overseerr.dev
I run all of mine in docker with docker compose.
Also I gave my mil and fil link to overseerr which Plex authenticates… They can request what ever and it appears.
I have been distro hopping for about 2 weeks now, there’s always something that doesn’t work. I thought I would stick with Debian and now I haven’t been able to make my printer work in it, I think I tried in another distro and it just worked out of the box, but there’s always something that’s broken in every distro....
I’ve been aware of pi-hole for a while now, but never bothered with it because I do most web browsing on a laptop where browser extensions like uBlock origin are good enough. However, with multiple streaming services starting to insert adds into my paid subscriptions, I’m looking to upgrade to a network blocker that will...
You all remember just a few weeks ago when Sony ripped away a bunch of movies and TV shows people “owned”? This ad is on Amazon. You can’t “own” it on Prime. You can just access it until they lose the license. How can they get away with lying like this?
I love not being bombarded by ads thanks to pihole and adblockers. I don’t have cable TV either. But without browsing netlifx/Hulu/etc. how do you actually find stuff to watch and discover worthwhile shows and movies to rent from my library?

Mayo, mustard or ketchup?
Choose wisely.
Pi-Hole or something else for network ad blocking?

Storage solutions
For someone who wants to maintain a library of movies, I see the first two links in movies megathread total to 34TB worth of content....
How do you discover new content?

If you're reading something and you don't understand a word, should you stop and research it or should you keep reading the whole thing first?
