AVincentInSpace,

Not since they got their own crawler which manages to be worse than Google’s one.

At least I assume that’s what happened. Their results are noticeably worse than they used to be and noticeably worse than a Google search, although that might be because I’m signed in

AVincentInSpace,

I often search for things with plenty of results on any other search engine and get one or (more commonly) zero results from Startpage. I remember they used to be a proxy for Google. I’m no longer convinced they are.

Ah, the “straight relationships are illegal” fandoms…

“Quick! The showrunners just introduced an opposite sex couple immediately after three same sex ones! We have to make one character bi and the other pan!”

“Oh my gosh! The mean-girl character just started sucking up to a kid she used to be friends with who has since become her social superior in the most transparent power grab of all time! It must mean she had a lesbian crush the entire time!”

siiiiiiiigh

it’s because the alternatives suck more

slack is paid, irc is a bodge on top of a bodge on top of a bodge, xmpp is rather similar, and matrix… would be nice if any of the clients except element supported any of the features, and also if message synchronization worked more than halfway

He also says that in order for anyone to make money by trading actual dollars for bits on a blockchain and then back again, or by mining those bits by paying an absurdly large power bill (to say nothing of single purpose hardware that becomes useless within a few years) and then selling them to the next guy, one must somehow convince some other poor soul that those bits on that blockchain are now somehow worth more dollars than they were when one bought them to begin with. No cryptocurrency can exist without bagholders. Categorically.

Aren’t pigs in a blanket when you wrap a sausage in a pancake? Hence, you know, pigs?

AVincentInSpace,

Because we came here from Reddit, and the Reddit hive mind has been stuck in the gutter for as long as anyone can remember

AVincentInSpace,

one of gen Z’s favorite hobbies is making up fictional versions of the rest of gen Z to get mad at

AVincentInSpace,

What if we just didn’t build a ceiling and called it the industrial aesthetic?

Hate joints like this.

AVincentInSpace,

There are many people (mostly in Japan where that’s legal) who literally have.

You see, sometimes I code something, go to bed before finishing it, come back, decide not to commit because then I’d have to think of a commit message and I just want to code, start working on an unrelated feature, do that for a couple days, get distracted by life stuff and put the project down for a few weeks/months, rinse and repeat, and then I finally get around to writing a commit message because I’m about to start a huge change and I want a restore point and I’m like. Okay, it’s been like 3 months since my last commit, I’m pretty sure my code can now do something it couldn’t 3 months ago but come on, I can’t even remember what I had for lunch last Thursday

I’m well aware this is terrible practice but I don’t know how to stop doing it

but…but new feature shiny

Fr tho this is all excellent advice

When a Torrent disappears from 1337x, how do you find out what happened?

Yesterday there was a controversial movie torrent that was getting 1000s of downloads and was on the “popular this week” page, and today it’s just gone. I went to the uploader’s account page and it’s not there either. Just like it never existed....

AVincentInSpace,

and I happen to agree but it is incredibly bad form to pass judgement on the basedness of one’s own post

Deleting a torrent is one thing. Deleting a torrent and then telling your follower base it was censored by the radical left is a different story.

No way, did Ben Sharpie actually make Divarsity?

AVincentInSpace,

it always kinda bugs me that people lose their minds over Pluto but can’t name even one of the other four dwarf planets in our solar system

AVincentInSpace,

The difference is that it’s consensual, you libtard.

Now try not to think about those monkeys we’re testing the product on and whether it was consensual for them.

^/s^ ^if^ ^it^ ^wasn’t^ ^obvious^

AVincentInSpace,

Ah, yes. Because Elon is clearly the only billionaire who is a conservative.

AVincentInSpace,

Well as long as they promise not to systematically murder us with vastly superior technology

“See we should all just come together and agree to believe what I believe. You should just accept that sometimes you’re wrong, even though I haven’t presented any evidence. If we agreed, we wouldn’t be fighting; therefore the charitable thing for you to do is to cause us to agree by changing your opinion to match mine”

North Korea calls itself democratic. Everyone in the country votes for a new leader every five years. It’s just that there’s only one name on the ballot.

One would be foolhardy to call that democracy.

One would be even more foolhardy to argue that this means that democracy is a stupid idea.

Likewise with socialism.
