What are your experiences with polyamory, first or second hand?

I personally am in a phenomenally stable polyamorous relationship. I’ve been married to my wife for 12 years, and she has had the same boyfriend for about half of that time. It’s a really fulfilling arrangement for all of us in various ways. We’re all genuinely happy and satisfied. I’m kind of casually looking for a...

A_Random_Idiot,

I’ve had a couple Poly experiences.

None of them are particularly happy memories, but it has nothing to do with Poly itself and everything to do with the fact that the only women that are attracted to me, or that are even interested in talking to me, seem to be abusers with a plethora of mental illness issues.

A_Random_Idiot,

desktop app for websites is called a browser, bro.

A_Random_Idiot,

I mean, if you think its not actively hurting you, then you’re willfully not paying attention at this point.

but you do you.

Just don’t come back crying “how could anyone let this happen?!” and begging for help when the hens come home to roost.

A_Random_Idiot, (edited )

You sound like my mother with how desperately you try to twist shit to make other peoples choices and actions somehow magically my fault.

A_Random_Idiot,

I am not a eloquent or verbose person, So I’ll just give you this link as a small example into why the problem is far far more than “google bad”

theguardian.com/…/google-csam-account-blocked

Mans child had swelling in its diaper area. Doctor requested pictures to study before virtual appointment. They took pictures and sent to the doctor.

Google declared the man a child pornographer, and sent the police after him, while also deleting his account (Which means he lost 10+ years of emails, photos, contacts, his phone number, etc)

Despite the doctor saying the pictures were medically necessary and requested, despite the police investigation saying there was nothing untoward happening, despite every single piece of evidence pointing that google was wrong…

google refuses to admit it was wrong, and just keeps pushing the argument that the mans a child pornographer and wont give him his account, or his data, back.

and when pushed about it, they dug through his entire data history to find a photo of his wife laying in bed, undressed, with…I think it was a previous child(You know, the kind of photos that almost all parents had before the digital era…), to hold up and go “AH HA, YOU ARE A CHILD PORNOGRAPHER. NO ACCOUNT FOR YOU, GOOD DAY SIR”

The only hope anyone has to fight against this kind of abusive and recklessly carelessness is the hope that public opinion can be inflamed against them, and honestly googles so big (and has so many blind fanboy supporters), that even that doesnt really work against them anymore.

And this is just part of the reason why Google Bad.

Theres more arguments to be made to further fill things out, like how google has disproportionate control over the internet, and is slowly trying to lock the internet down with shit like its “Web Integrity” DRM, Where only “approved” browsers can access compliant websites. Basically to make adblocking impossible… And yes, they did technically announce they killed that project, but it shows the kind of mindset going on at google and I doubt very seriously this is the last we see of such things.

A_Random_Idiot,

Lotro used to be a fantastic MMO, I gave a big chunk of my life to that game.

I quit playing after Mordor though, game just got too pointlessly difficult, even on landscape, lost all the fun I had with it.

A_Random_Idiot,

SWTOR has one of the most balefully hateful f2p systems I have ever seen in a mmo. Which was enough to make me not subscribe to the game while I was testing it out.

A_Random_Idiot,

FFXIV is a fantastic game, with a fantastic free trial that lets you play the entire base game for free (and i think they recently expanded that to the first expansion too), and its beautiful as hell, has a fantastic story, and doesnt require a super computer to run.

A_Random_Idiot, (edited )

Oh, neat. I thought it was the first expansion, but hte second?

Thats a whole lot of content for free.

Apologies for my accidental misinformation.

Gamers who have gamed for a long time

do you find it difficult to get into games? I’ve got Epic Games and Steam Games libraries chock-full of classic top-tier games along with many other newer games like Stray or 2077, and a bunch of indie titles. I just can’t be bothered to download and install them, much less try to get into the characters and storylines. Used...

A_Random_Idiot,

Yeah, I’m the same way.

because I have massive, chronic depression. I find no real joy in playing new games with rare exception (Starfield was one, at least, until I got into playing it and realized how bad it was…), for the most part, and prefer to wrap myself in the comfortable known of a select few games, and even those I cant sit and play for a very long time before all drive disappears.

You doing ok, OP?

Why wasn't NYC's Central Park concept copied by other cities?

I’m talking about a massive park in the absolute heart of the city. Located such that is naturally surrounded by city high rises. *People are giving examples of parks that are way off in the boonies. I’m trying to say located centrally, heart of the city, you know where the high rises are. Yes I understand nyc has more, the...

A_Random_Idiot,

because no one values green spaces.

Which is why government typically rubberstamps every developer request to clearcut new forests and turn under new grassland, to build a new poorly built development of McMansions that will probably have to be extensively rebuilt within 5-10 years due to the apalling build quality.

Same reason no one builds affordable homes. Why develop homes for the poors, for 100k, when they can make McMansions on the same land, and sell them for 1mil+ a pop.

If Central Park was proposed today, it would be decried as a waste of valuable property (and probably liberal wokeism)

A_Random_Idiot,

Something seems odd with the idea that high rises were ‘natural’ :-)

They are better than spreading single family homes and ground floor commercial spaces over a huge swath of land that would inevitable need clearcutting and plowing under to be suitable for development.

A_Random_Idiot,

They spent billions to fix traffic issues and failing infrastructure.

The greenspace was a byproduct. That was only allowed to happen because buildings along the former elevated roadway would see a massive increase in land value with the roadway gone that was more valuable than shoving more buildings into the strip of land.

A_Random_Idiot,

Yes, who would have thought having a giant fucking highway outside your 4th story window would have negatively impacted property value.

A_Random_Idiot,

Yep.

Government already knows everything you owe.

They just cant tell you

Cause Tax prep lobbying said it would be unfair to their business.

So you gotta play the whole complicated game of figuring out your taxes, because H&R Cock wants your refund.

A_Random_Idiot,

Big reason is because people keep buying it.

Lesser reason is that these companies are risk averse, and would rather spend 500 million risking a flop on a remake of somethign that has an existing base, than spend 10million to support something new, unique and creative.

A_Random_Idiot,

I think the immediate deaths would all be from people who need electricity to run medical devices.

Followed shortly by people who require refrigerated medication.

Followed by elderly who die from exposure to extreme, unconditioned temperatures.

and that would be in the first, oh, say… week or two.

Then, with fridges full of rotted food, your first major death wave will occur as masses of people lose their absolute goddamn minds in panic and fear and start food riots/try to rob from others/raid big industrial farms/neighborhood gardens/etc, which leads to mass deaths from starvation, exposure, exertion, desperation, and gunshot.

Which will even out after about a week or two.

Then you settle in for the slow burn. 3 months out you’ll have another, comparatively small wave of deaths from people who run out of non-refridgeration requiring medications.

Then another slow burn until manufactured canned goods run out in stores and scavanged homes until a wave of starvation.

All in all, I’d say you’d probably be over the bulk of the mass deaths after 6 months, and with a significantly reduced population… Which will be to the benefit of the survivors, since less people per mile will make farming/hunting easier, and life safer… because while raiders/thieves will always be a overarching concern and safety issue, at this point, most of the desperation should have passed along with most of the desperate.

There will also be, for at least a generation, possibly two, the lingering unspoken understanding that more people than anyone would ever care to count only survived the famines and fall by eating the long pig.

A_Random_Idiot,

I think fish wouldnt be as available as you think, since tons of desperate people will use less than ethical means to harvest every edible, living thing from the river systems.

Leaving to massive ecological damage, and possibly massive contamination as well.

A_Random_Idiot,

I think you misjudge, considering how massively popular fishing became during covid, as one of the only hobbies you could do that was outside and solitary.

A_Random_Idiot,

You are thinking like a fisherman, and not a throng of panicky, starving masses.

I bet most the fish wont even be cooked before being consumed.

Nor will care be given for any toxins dumped into the water to try and scoop every living organism out of it in the starved panic.

A_Random_Idiot,

Steam Big Picture mode.

Its right there right next to large mode, which you need to use to browse the store.

and every time, I hit big picture mode instead.

and have to sit through the stupid animation, then try to remember how to put it back in regular mode.

and I dont understand why they cant give us an option to disable big picture mode. Its only useful for a niche minority of users, let them have it without becoming a headache for the rest of us.

and make steam remember fucking window sizes and positions while you’'re at it, fucking valve. every goddamn steam update just makes the performance and usability worse.

A_Random_Idiot,

Anjelica Houston and Raul Julia.

There will never be a more iconic Morticia and Gomez.

They are my absolute relationship goal. I want to find a partner that embraces my weird and loves it whole hearted and unashamedly, and I theirs.

Sadly, as I get older, I realize its never gonna happen.

A_Random_Idiot,

Israel, unfortunately.

The whole point of provoking these attacks via their violent oppression is so they can retaliate against Palestine, kill masses of innocents, and build new settlements on Palestinian land when the dust clears.

A_Random_Idiot,

I avoid the hangover all together by drinking smart.

Drink a water between each beer/drink. All it takes, Never had a hangover, regardless of how excessively I imbibed (it also really helps to keep the bill cheaper)
