Anticorp,

One could even say it sounds like “incoherent mumbling”.

Is it actually dangerous to run Firefox as root?

I have a few Linux servers at home that I regularly remote into in order to manage, usually logged into KDE Plasma as root. Usually they just have several command line windows and a file manager open (I personally just find it more convenient to use the command line from a remote desktop instead of directly SSH-ing into the...

Anticorp,

It’s about as dangerous as using IE in the old days, or Edge in administrator mode.

Anticorp,

I haven’t opened any Christmas presents yet. We’re having a late Christmas due to crazy schedules for everyone involved.

Anticorp,

Exposed for what? Is it a blackface thing? I guess I don’t get it.

Anticorp,

Running does things like that to the mind. The first time I ran 10 miles, I started hallucinating around mile 8. I was running through the forest and the wind was gently swaying the trees back and forth. I understood for the first time that trees are the lungs of the earth, steadily breathing in the cO2 and breathing out oxygen for the rest of life on earth.

Anticorp,

Plus you’re stuck using your stupid laptop keyboard unless you want to lug a keyboard and mouse around. It’s really sucky for people who have carpal tunnel and need special mice and keyboards.

Anticorp,

If you message cross-platform from Android to iOS, and you can’t get everyone to agree upon a 3rd party app, then you’re kind of stuck with sms. This isn’t a problem that is going away in the near future. Apple relies on their locked messaging platform to influence their users into thinking iOS is the best. The users then pressure all of their friends to get iPhones too. It’s an effective strategy for them. Very few iPhone users seem to understand the games being played.

Anticorp,

Code comments are useful for browsing a script and understanding it at a glance. I shouldn’t have to scroll up and down across 700 lines of code to figure out what’s happening. It’s especially useful with intellisense, since I can just hover over a function and get a tooltip showing the comment, explaining what it does. It also helps when using functions imported from other files, since it’ll populate the comment showing me what parameters are needed and what each should be. Comments save time, and time is valuable.

Anticorp,

I knew it was my time to join the old group when “slaps” became popular.

Anticorp,

Sounds like that guy wasn’t being stupid though. He didn’t know it had a metal core.

Anticorp,

They will too! My neighborhood murder is enormous, and they keep the airspace clear of bald eagles. If an eagle ever dares enter our neighborhood, the crows flock out of the trees by the hundreds and chase that motherfucker off, cawing all the way. When they’re done, they all return to the trees and caw for a good half hour afterwards. My guess is they’re talking about how bad ass they are.

Anticorp,

But they had unpleasant young lives.

So did a lot of people, but they didn’t get a billion dollars for their troubles.

Anticorp,

When I was a kid I was convinced that I could do it if I honed my mind sharp enough, and mastered my body. I’m still not convinced that it’s impossible, because I didn’t have the discipline to achieve perfection.

Anticorp,

I’ve been wondering if we’re losing users. My “Everything” feed sorted by Active is full of posts with zero comments, and a great deal of them are just news article links that were probably automated.

Anticorp,

Apps are going to be written in React Native

Idk if I’m the only person who thinks this, but I feel like React has gotten worse over the last couple of major versions. Not only does the code look a lot messier when you use their new syntax, but the end result seems unreliable. Facebook is barely even usable now. Their history management is laughable, and it’ll drop you out of the site randomly when using the back buttons. I used to think React was really neat, but I’m not a big fan anymore. There’s too much re-engineering for problems that were solved decades ago.

Anticorp,

If there’s a bad decision that can be made, the Outlook development team made it. It’s a real shame that the industry standard is a hot garbage fire of a program.

Anticorp,

This constant harassment should be illegal. They should not be able to prompt you every single time you use a service. There needs to be a “NO” option. Not “no thank you”, not “maybe later”, “NO!”.

I had no idea that you could download movies from the 90ies from archive.org (jeena.net)

I couldn’t find the Flintstones movie from 1994 anywhere but googling it I found it here archive.org/details/the-flintstones_202304 and you can either download it via torrent or directly. On top of it it says that the movie is CC0 which means Public Domain. But that can’t really be, it’s only 29 years old....

Anticorp,

Speaking of movies from the 90s, we just watched The Crow on Halloween (Devil’s) night, and that movie is definitely a John Wick prequel.

Anticorp,

That’s really cool. I still have the metal dustpan that I made in 7th grade shop class and it’s the best dustpan we own.

Anticorp,

Lotta good it did on Reddit. Eh? Karma provides motivation for botting.

Anticorp,

Of course Elongated disputes it, he enjoys the fantasy that he’s a self made man.
