CaptKoala,

Elon goes for a Sunday drive in his Space-Tesla, forgets oxygen.

CaptKoala,

Many in this thread seem to need the reminder…

CaptKoala,

I came for the analysis, I stay for the Fuck spez.

CaptKoala,

You know it’s getting bad when this news isn’t shocking to you anymore…

CaptKoala,

Folks finally listened to me when I said “get me something I’ll use every day or don’t bother, it’s wasteful”.

CaptKoala,

As a huge procrastinator, it’s this thought hitting me that gets me to go do stuff, nothing gets you moving like it.

CaptKoala,

I started doing it by accident due to life events, irregular shift times etc.

Now it really is just “part of my diet” in a way. I’ve also noticed as a byproduct that my appetite is pretty closely tied to my activity level. Helps when planning meals if I intend to be hitting gym or doing nothing.

Ending support for Windows 10 could send 240 million computers to the landfill. Why not install Linux on them? (gadgettendency.com)

With support ending for Windows 10, the most popular desktop operating system in the world currently, possibly 240 million pcs may be sent to the landfill. This is mostly due to Windows 11’s exorbitant requirements. This will most likely result in many pcs being immediately outdated, and prone to viruses. GNU/Linux may be...

CaptKoala,

The discord thing is improving (slowly), also partly it now recognizes Linux games launched from steam, but not proton ones. I haven’t tried lutris or anything yet, but I haven’t booted into windows for weeks now.

I’ve also become more comfortable with Linux in general so that’s likely helped too.

CaptKoala,

I’m dreaming of an ad-free vision technology

CaptKoala,

My windows did this to me while I was dual booting with Mint, re-enabled secure boot when I went back to windows to check a wiki real quick.

CaptKoala,

I was forced to realise before covid, that my family is dysfunctional and delusional. This obviously extends to family events such as Xmas.

I lost interest many years ago in the whole theatrics of it, it’s a capitalist holiday and nothing more. My family touts that “it’s about the thought and the people” when in actuality it’s always been about the gifts (and by extension, money spent).

With that said, covid caused a pause in a lot of said family relations, and that was the straw that broke the (camel’s) back. Most of my family is now rarely in contact, and Xmas as a family event finally bit the dust.

I’m on top of the world, and there’s still money in my wallet, as well as less familial bullshit.

So yeah, I’ll take it as a win.

CaptKoala,

Money is the issue with all holidays in recent times. Take the fuckin’ money out of it, it should never have been involved in the first place.

CaptKoala,

Stop waiting for a single (or a couple) days of the year to put effort in for enjoyment, do it every damn day.

CaptKoala,

I removed and moan as much as the next bloke, but yeah that comment hit me right in the soul (assuming I have one).

CaptKoala,

You went wrong at “convincing”. Send it, hope for the best ;)

CaptKoala,

Based. If you see something you dont like on the fediverse, you can ignore it (like a sane person) or filter it out (also like a sane person).

CaptKoala,

There are examples of exactly this occuring regarding renewables, there are community funded battery/solar farms here in Aus.

If it can be done on that scale, it can definitely be scaled up, it’s just a matter of willingness of the community.

CaptKoala,

Yes, by removing all internet connectivity and updates.

Yes+: Hulk smash.

CaptKoala,

I’m in this picture and I don’t like it…

CaptKoala,

100% on the TLDR there, I’ll edit as such, that comment is open source ;)

I’ve been running Ubuntu on a separate machine for a little while now, and it works great, just not a good fit for me.

I’m happy to say within 2 weeks of my dual boot I’m already on mint 90% of the time. It just fucking works. (Without waking me up at 2-4am sending the fans to mach 7 for a damn windows update).

CaptKoala,

I’ve had similar thoughts and sentiments in my (short) Linux journey, my only advice is to distro-hop a bit as many Lemmings preach, find your fit (in VM/live mode or separate machine) and dive right in.

Side effects may include hair loss in early introduction, stick with it, it’s worth it.
