You got flamed for being right.

I deleted my comment because I was not up to arguing with Rossmann’s fan club

I'm not even a huge fan of Rossmann, I was just asking you to explain what you felt he was wrong about. At no point in the thread did you ever explain why you were so vehemently claiming he has no idea what he's talking about in this video.

it was a waste of my time

If anything, you wasted everybody else's time by making a weird claim and refusing to explain yourself.

Edit: lmao deleted again, guess we'll never get an answer, will we?

Chozo,

You're okay with putting somebody out of a job because of something somebody else did?

Chozo,

I had free Nitro for a few years because I was a partner. Only ever used it for making my username end in . Nothing else it offers is really that useful, imo. Especially for the price.

Is it possible to see exactly which users liked, and disliked a post?

In the official browser app, and any of the mobile apps that I have examined so far, it seems that you are only ever able to see the total number of likes, or dislikes that a post has, and you are not able to see exactly who upvoted, or downvoted the post. Does ActivityPub, or Lemmy track this information at all, or does it just...

Chozo,

On Kbin, your comment has 0 upvotes and 0 downvotes (at the time of writing this), but when I view your comment from the original instance, it shows a score of 1.

So I guess lemmy.ml defaults comments at 1 point.

EDIT: Immediately refreshed the original instance, and I'm also at 1 point within 3 seconds of posting. So yeah, that seems to just be the default score. And upvoting my own comment didn't change the score on lemmy.ml. But also, I upvoted your comment, and you're still at 1 point on lemmy.ml. So I dunno if that's a sync issue, or if "unscored" and "1 upvote" both equal "1" on the original instance.

Chozo,

I see 2 upvotes and 0 downvotes to your earlier comment on Kbin, but still only +1 on the original instance.

Chozo,

Yeah, I think a lot of the new Reddit refugees are failing to realize that Lemmy and the Fediverse existed before the recent migration and expect everything to just work the way they want, instead of how it's been working just fine without them for years. The Fediverse doesn't "belong" to them, and open connections are what this platform is built on.

Chozo,

Search engines have their own "trustworthiness" metric that they keep track of for sites they index. That's why you usually don't find malware in the top results for most searches, unless you're going down some already shady rabbit holes.

Chozo,

I love Via 313, but it's gone downhill in recent years, unfortunately. The wait times are ridiculously long, the prices have skyrocketed, and the quality has lowered. Honestly, I could deal with the lower quality if either the price or the wait time went down. It's bad enough paying $15 for a small pan pizza, but it's even worse when it takes 90 minutes to get to you, after you've already been in line for 20 minutes.

Though, that's true for pretty much all the pizza places around here. They've all just gotten progressively worse, and it's really sad. :(

I feel like /c/memes has taught us a valuable lesson today: Would it make sense to develop a feature to block a comm from our feed for a selectable unit of time (1 hour, 1 day, etc.)?

Even if we’re subscribed to them? Could a temp block exist in conjunction with a subscription? I love c/memes but holy shit no matter which sort I select by they’ve managed to overwhelm my feed.

Chozo,

I just started blocking all the meme subs, because there's so many of them and they all clog up my feed. If I want memes, I'll go to Squabbles. Their meme game is legitimately on point over there, and I think their page layout is better suited for meme feeds than Lemmy.

Chozo,

how could they even have the cashflow to support that?

I'm guessing new deals with advertisers. These changes will incentivize more neutral, advertiser-friendly comments on their platform. I imagine that's going to make them more lucrative to advertisers going forward, so that their ads are shown next to harmless memes instead of bad-faith political arguments in cat pic subreddits.

Chozo,

The German word for "glove" is "handschuhe". "Hand" meaning "hand", and "schuhe" meaning "shoe".

Shoes for your hands. It's perfect.

Chozo,

Chozo,

TalkLittle is making a Tildes app. Not sure if he's going to split his attention across multiple projects right now.

Chozo,

It might be related to this:
https://kbin.social/m/random/t/134102/Blocking-instances-to-clear-the-500k-queue#comments

Today kbin.social is blocking a huge list of domains just to get federation working again.

The reason for this temporally block is not to defederate, but rather to get the large backlog of 500k messenger queue processed again. Anyway, this does mean that kbin.social is federating again with other instances.

This is a temporary measure. Several users / developers are looking into how to better optimize the failed message queue, as we speak. Hopefully Ernest has eventually time to dive into solutions as well instead of workarounds, once his instance is migrated to Kubernets. See my preview thread: https://kbin.melroy.org/m/updates/t/4257/Kbin-federation-issues-and-infra-upgrade

Chozo,

I'm not sure how federation does anything to prevent that from happening, though. They can still do that on your instance, from their instance.

At most, I suppose an instance could defederate from a troublesome instance that's doing this, but the more that happens, the more fragmented the Fediverse becomes, and it starts to defeat the purpose of federation in the first place.
