Some harsh comments about GIMP here. I think it’s fantastic. Totally bailed out my workplace when the Adobe Extortion Suite decided break on our machines. I use it at home too and I’m grateful for it.
My distro came with Rhythmbox and I’ve pretty much just stuck with it. It does podcasts and radio which I appreciate and I can also edit track metadata in it. For playing music from my file browser I use MPV because it’s fast.
I’ve gone back to using packages from my repo. I was all-in with flatpaks for a while because they tend to be more up to date than my distro’s packages and I liked the idea of the sandboxing but in practice I’ve found it a nuisance getting applications to speak to each other and I don’t like all the redundant code bloating my internal drive. The thing that really did it for me though was the other day when I had to restore my system from a Timeshift backup. It took an hour and a half to restore a recent backup, with well over 90% of that time showing as flatpak stuff.
What is your process for watching a video? For me to do it like this I currently have to copy the link, open a terminal, download the video with yt-dlp, navigate to the file, open it and then watch it. And then usually delete it. I’m curious if there is a faster or simpler way…
Yeah, I feel more up for interacting on lemmy. Right now the vibe feels more sane and friendly than reddit and less uptight than mastodon, so maybe it’s where I feel most comfortable.
