CoderKat, to movies in Henry Cavill's Highlander reboot is moving forward with John Wick director at the helm

Yeah, over time, I’ve come to care a lot less for movies. For most things, I’d rather have a TV show so that there’s more time to get invested in characters and do world building. Plus more bite sized viewing sessions.

Modern TV has such high production values that movies have lost their biggest competitive edge. Plus showrunners have more options for how to perform the show. No longer do shows need to be bloated with far too many episodes. Public opinion has also changed, so they don’t even try to get away with bullshit like clip episodes anymore (mind you, those were mostly for sitcoms in the first place). Streaming has also made shows more accessible than ever.

My best guess is that they hope some agriculture or GMO company might have a use for it. Basically crops + future theme. Maybe they were trying to stand out from the likely vastly more common corn + person in lab coat?

It’s likely a kbin bug (or an app if you used one to make the comment), since the slashes are there even on the website directly.

CoderKat, to asklemmy in What are some places you can spend time where you're protected from the elements and it doesn't cost anything to be there?

I’m curious, were they ever that stereotypical “shh” environment that movies claimed they were? Because no public library in my lifetime was ever like that (just smaller school libraries), but I can’t go back very far. Most libraries I’ve been to have multiple areas or floors, some which are quiet and others which are allowed to be noisy.

Woah, slut shaming is uncool. If trucks like having sex, that’s not a negative thing. Would you have said that if it was a Porsche?

How does this happen? Really soggy, thawed pizza?

Really well done! I hadn’t thought about a pixel art cake before and now I want one.

CoderKat, to memes in I dont like drama

Yes, but arguably it was never very scalable for federated software to store large media. It gets utterly massive quick. Third party image/video hosts that specialize in hosting those things can do a better job. And honestly, that’s the kinda data that is just better suited for centralization. Many people can afford to spin up a server that mostly just stores text and deals with basic interactions. Large images or streaming video gets expensive fast, especially if the site were to ever get even remotely close to reddit levels.

CoderKat, to unethicallifeprotips in Rent requirements in the US are nuts

Naw, tenants insurance is entirely reasonable in my book. That’s not meant for small things. That’s meant for huge disasters like if you cause a fire that burns down the entire building. The liability insurance is the only part they usually care about. Fortunately, it’s usually relatively cheap, too.

If you didn’t have insurance, they’d just need more insurance themselves and they’ll pass that buck on to you. At least with renters insurance, you can get some coverage for your personal belongings, too.

CoderKat, to memes in I noticed after zooming in

I remember having one of those as a kid. For a few days, it was the best thing ever, till I got bored with it and never played with it again.

CoderKat, to asklemmy in What is the most unhelpful advice you have received?

I like reading vim commands as if they were spoken. “Good game daddy girl colon wanna quit” (idk)

CoderKat, to asklemmy in What is the most unhelpful advice you have received?

“Don’t be a quitter” is something that makes sense if you’re in the middle of a board game or the likes. It definitely shouldn’t be applied to big things like jobs or relationships.

CoderKat, to asklemmy in What's a quote that has stuck with you for your whole life?

Oof, I have quite a lot. One of my favourites is, “the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

I find it immensely relatable, as I think a huge number of problems in the world today stem from simply apathy. People who say they dislike the state of the world and even that they want to change it, but refuse to do absolutely anything at all, being perfectly content to just let bad things happen.
