CraigeryTheKid,

I tuned into the NYC new years, and I guess it’s been awhile since I saw images of NYC - holy shit, it looks terrible! HAPPY KIA NEW YEARS! seriously? every inch of building is a scrolling screen. wow.

CraigeryTheKid,

Pre-2014 or so I was 85% Newegg or more.

Post, I’ve been 85%+ Amazon. I buy from B&H when I can, but honestly Amazon tends to dominate the PC partlicker list.

To clarify - I removed Newegg from the vendor list. Won’t even look at them.

CraigeryTheKid, (edited )

Oh jeez! Good to know.

Amazon is no saint either, obviously; it’s getting hard to buy from anyone if you learn too much about them!

Is it possible to use Google Drive reliably?

I’ve been using Google Drive in Windows for about a decade and have a good workflow. I recently transitioned to Linux but cannot seem to reliably connect my drive to the filesystem. My work provides unlimited Drive space and since it’s for work I have shared directories with coworkers that I need access to every day. Hence,...

CraigeryTheKid,

I am using rclone with Linux, and works just fine. Just long term backups, but it runs the same speed (slow) as windows-to-proton.

Anyway, point being rclone works!

PopOS is what got me into Linux, and the only one that worked “out of the the box” for the handful of things I wanted, esp remote desktop.

Yes, anecdotal, but I’m running 3 PCs on Pop and loving it.

Edit: reading the article, and graph, it also looks like the field is more crowded in general. Also, would be good to see total installs over time, not just %.

CraigeryTheKid,

Wait, what? I’m on PopOS, with Nvidia GPU, and my “g-sync” VRR works fine.

CraigeryTheKid,

I can confirm that PopOS 22.04 is definitely running on X. wayland is officially coming when Cosmic releases.

That said, I see that Wayland is “available” if I want to manually switch to it - but it is definitely disabled as a default (and current) setting.

Holy crap pets. Both of my dogs passed, but it was about $1,000/yr each for normal stuff, when you add it all up. Food, vet, boarding, toys, beds, etc. you aren’t kidding.

I also know that people will skip better food and the vet, meaning they end up with unhealthy pets too.

How safe is self-hosting a public website behind Cloudflare?

I work in tech and am constantly finding solutions to problems, often on other people’s tech blogs, that I think “I should write that down somewhere” and, well, I want to actually start doing that, but I don’t want to pay someone else to host it....

CraigeryTheKid,

That’s what I’m doing! I used it to make a “blog” of all the things I had to learn to switch to Linux for my home drives and daily gaming rig. Complete with copy buttons on the code blocks so I can do a complete reformat in minutes!

18+ What's your favorite episode of MST3k? (lemmy.world)

I remember one day hearing my father downstairs laughing his ass off. Went down to see what was so funny to find he had just discovered Mystery Science Theater 3000, and was losing it watching The Giant Gila Monster. I sat down to watch. I didn’t really get it then, but I’ve been a fan ever since.

CraigeryTheKid,

I honestly thought this was the default/classic answer, and am surprised at how far down it was.

I too just started Linux 2 weeks ago, and my search results led me to xrdp on host, and remmina on client.

CraigeryTheKid,

Pop! all the way for me. I think Mint was second, but something about Pop just felt so much more natural and smooth. And it had remote desktop option out of the box, whereas all the others I would have had to install something.

CraigeryTheKid,

Oh man I just discovered and joined turtle yesterday! Haven’t had a chance to play, but did confirm it ran without any additional setup on PopOS.

CraigeryTheKid,

asking the important questions, and exactly why I came to the comments. I need answers.
