Critical_Insight,

Do you really have this few games in your library?

Yes. I don’t play anything else except DayZ currently.

Second, if you are already using Proton and my first guess is wrong, use another Proton version.

Yeah I had all this enabled. The game worked perfectly before and then just all of a sudden stopped launching. I tired Proton 8 and 7 aswell but no difference.

What distro are you using?

Ubuntu

Did you try using Flatpak instead of the native package?

I was using the snap version of Steam that I had installed from Ubuntu App Store. I uninstalled it and installed the native version using terminal. Obviously I had to re-download and re-install the game aswell and it started working again after that. I’m not entirely sure what was causing the issue in the first place but I’m suspecting it was an issue in the steam app itself. What is curious though is that the exactly same issue occured to me previously with Windows 7 aswell and judging by the reports online, I’m not the only one.

The problem is however solved - atleast for now, and that’s the most important thing. Thanks for the help though! The assistance I got from this community is invaluable. I’d be completely stuck with this on my own.

I wonder if this command would clear out the remaining files from the snap install that appears to have been left behind? Since the game is now working I’m afraid to tweak anything more so that I don’t mess it up again

I’m sorry I just don’t know how to check any of that. These are the GPU drivers I’m using (I think) The game worked just fine for several weeks with these drivers.

Critical_Insight,

But what’s strange is that it worked with proton experimental untill this point and that I had this exact same issue earlier on Windows 7 aswell on this same PC. I however did try using proton 8 but that made no difference. I need to try those other versions too

Interestingly that file doesn’t seem to be located in the location you mentioned but rather: home/snap/steam/common/.steam/steamapps/steam/comptdata

There is no steam folder at “share”

I’ll try deleting that anyways. I’ll report back in a moment

EDIT: Nope, nothing.

Critical_Insight,

There is no such option available in the drop down menu or when I open properties

Critical_Insight,

I’m not sure what you mean. Uninstall them from here?

Also why is there three different Linux Runtimes?

Critical_Insight,

I might treat my PC with a new motherboard, CPU and RAM in the near future so switching distros is not totally out of the question. This rig is almost exclusively for playing DayZ tho, so this issue is particularly irritating.

Yeah I actually saw that on an article while googling about it. I ran the code but haven’t managed to test it yet. Trying again with the different steam version in a moment. I think I saw something about i386 scroll by while it was installing.

Critical_Insight,

Well I ran the code anyway so I hope that’s okay. Really appreciate the help man.

Critical_Insight,

It’s copy and pasting 5 lines into the terminal and hitting enter. It’s not that hard. If it’s not worth the 15 seconds of ‘work’ you probably don’t need the software that badly.

Telling people to just run random code they found on the internet and don’t understand is really bad advice.

Critical_Insight,

I have no idea honestly. It’s quite esoteric device so probably not.

Sam Harris about moral philosophy.

I find his reasoning to be incredibly logical and easy to follow. On top of that he has a really pleasant voice.

Critical_Insight,

While I’m thankful for the team at uBlock Origin, I still wouldn’t call it greedy that a company that provides a quite excellent free video streaming platform, would also like to make a little profit from it too or at the very least to cover the expenses.

Critical_Insight,

To me it is the advertising that is the problem. Without ads, there’s no need for collecting user data either. Even if it’s non-targeted ads, that would still make the advertisers the customer, not the people watching those videos. This incentivizes them to optimize the platform to please the advertisers, not the users, resulting in a worse service.

I understand why many people feel like the option to have non-targeted ads instead of monthly fee seems tempting, but in my opinion this doesn’t solve the root of the problem, which is the ads-based bussines model. It’s what makes everything go to shit.

Critical_Insight,

I have been using YouTube almost since the day one. I’ve watched tens of thousands of hours of free content, and I’ve not watched a single ad. If their every user was like me, then how could they make any profit from it? Now the profit comes from the people that do watch those ads aswell as people who pay for premium. What does that make me then? A freerider.

Critical_Insight,

Yeah but those same people are already paying for Spotify, Netflix, Disney+ and so on. I’m not some bussines genious, so I’m obviously talking out of my ass, but I’d imagine if YouTube had switched to a affordable subscribtion model like 5 years ago, today we’d have a much better platform. I don’t think it’s so much the subscribtion model itself that’s the issue, but the transition from a free platform to paid one.

Critical_Insight,

I’ve gotten it once per day now 3 days in a row
