Critical_Insight,

I’ll let you, OP borrow my brain anyday if you’d like to experience what it’s like to live always expecting things to go wrong.

Critical_Insight,

I wish I could do that. Currently I’m trying to start a bussines, but my mind just keeps coming up with the most unlikely terrible scenarios that might happen and convincing me to never try anything new so that I can’t fuck it up.

Critical_Insight,

It’s copy and pasting 5 lines into the terminal and hitting enter. It’s not that hard. If it’s not worth the 15 seconds of ‘work’ you probably don’t need the software that badly.

Telling people to just run random code they found on the internet and don’t understand is really bad advice.

Critical_Insight, (edited )

It’s not difficult. I’ve installed several apps that way already. I just don’t like blindly following instructions while having zero understanding of what I’m actually doing here. Also, in this case the instructions are unhelpful because nowhere it tells me to install curl first and because of me not having it the first command just comes back with an error.

Critical_Insight,

You seem nice

Critical_Insight, (edited )

The thing with our current hypersonic missiles is that they’re only hypersonic during the transit. They don’t hit the target at hypersonic speeds. Traveling at those speeds creates plasma around the missile which prevents communication with airplanes, satellites or ground based radars. You also have to be high up in the atmosphere where air is thin or otherwise your missile is going to turn into a fireball way before it reaches the target. This is what also prevents you from attaching a seeker into the front of the missile; that would melt aswell.

This is why Ukraine has shot down Russian “hypersonic missiles” with the US patriot system even though that should be impossible. It is impossible while the missile is still hypersonic but that’s not when you intercept it. You wait for it to get closer and slow down first. That’s why Kinzhal doesn’t really count as a hypersonic weapon or if it does then so does the German V-2 from the 40’s.

Critical_Insight,

Yeah I tried proton 8 and 7 too and no difference. I had this exact same issue in win7 too before I switced to Linux so I don’t think it’s an issue with proton.

Critical_Insight,

There is no such option available in the drop down menu or when I open properties

Critical_Insight, (edited )

I’m sorry I just don’t know how to check any of that. These are the GPU drivers I’m using (I think) The game worked just fine for several weeks with these drivers.

Critical_Insight,

Yeah I followed the instructions there and it worked without an issue for several weeks and then just stopped working.

Critical_Insight,

I’ve been using Linux for only a couple of weeks and all this is complete hebrew to me. I have no clue what is snap version of steam.

Critical_Insight,

Yeah I installed Steam using the Ubuntu app store. Now I’m trying to uninstall it but it’s been going on for an hour and doesn’t seem to be progressing anywhere.

Critical_Insight,

There seems to be something wrong trying to install it. I get message saying:

Critical_Insight,

But what’s strange is that it worked with proton experimental untill this point and that I had this exact same issue earlier on Windows 7 aswell on this same PC. I however did try using proton 8 but that made no difference. I need to try those other versions too

Critical_Insight, (edited )

Interestingly that file doesn’t seem to be located in the location you mentioned but rather: home/snap/steam/common/.steam/steamapps/steam/comptdata

There is no steam folder at “share”

I’ll try deleting that anyways. I’ll report back in a moment

EDIT: Nope, nothing.

Critical_Insight,

I installed DayZ Experimental and I have the same issue with that. I haven’t tried with other games as I have none installed.

Trying to run steam via terminal gives me this wall of text:

My GPU is just a few years old GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER and I just updated the drivers from 535 to 545 but no difference. However I’ve gotten a prompt saying that Steam needs nvidia-driver-libs:i386 so I’m not sure if I should install that instead or in addition to the ones I already have.

I still haven’t been able to uninstall steam snap(?) either. I’d like to try the non-snap version using terminal but I don’t know how to proceed. I’m sorry I’m such a novice with Linux. I’m feeling like my replies are really unhelpful.

EDIT: No luck trying to install the other drivers. All I got is this:

Critical_Insight, (edited )

The drivers I had before were proprietary and tested but the ones I updated to now (545) are just proprietary. Earlier I got this message so that’s why I’m trying to install the 32 bit drivers too though it worked just fine before without them.

Here’s my system info. I’ll try uninstalling steam again now.

Critical_Insight,

I’m not sure what you mean. Uninstall them from here?

https://i.imgur.com/QSuqAqJ.png

Also why is there three different Linux Runtimes?

Critical_Insight, (edited )

Yeah the unistallation gets stuck with terminal aswell. It managed to break steam so it no longer opens but wont remove it either. Guess I’ll just try and install it again via terminal nevertheless.

Critical_Insight, (edited )

I did get the “Processing vulcan shaders” pop-up sometimes when I opened the game (back when it was still working) So I should not be using the Proton experimental? It worked just fine untill now. That’s what’s so strange about it. I do have an old PC but my GPU is brand new though.

I’m trying to re-install steam right now but it’s been uninstalling it for about an hour and doesn’t seem to be progressing anywhere…

Critical_Insight,

I need no try again. The uninstall failed the first time. It got stuck at 80% or so. I’ve had so much issues with Linux from the start that I’m getting suspicious about wether it’s a hardware issue.

Critical_Insight,

I’m starting to think it has something to do with my GPU/drivers aswell. Earlier when I ran the software updater it found an update for steam but while installing I got this message and I have no idea what it mean and how to sort it out

https://i.imgur.com/HoCIbGz.png

Critical_Insight,

I have checked all drivers, atleast I think I have, and have rebooted the system many times. Even took off the power cord for a minute
