There’s only two reasons an app should be a subscription.
The app requires constant server connection that is an active cost to the developer.
The app requires constant updates for maintaining functionality/ relevancy.
There are a few subscriptions I pay for (Nabu casa for one). There’s real merit in the subscription model, but it should only be about 1% of things not 80%.
I still can’t justify people stealing stuff they don’t need so they can resell it for a quick buck. Especially people stealing from independent businesses.
The dubs vs subs argument made more sense when dubs were generally low effort trash. Now dubbing is done very well. As someone who can read subtitles fine, a dub is always more a relaxing/ less cerebral experience where I can focus that much more on the content.
And everything was being bombarded with comets, asteroids, gamma ray bursts, and all the other horrors of our current universe but right next door. Too much chaos for any sustainability.
It’s our modern capitalist world that says you should spend every waking moment on productivity, regardless if it’s actually valuable. Be willing to spend your best moments making yourself happy, it’s how we are meant to live. We’re not machines.
