Where can a Boomer catch up on current computer/software technology?

I have an eight-year-old laptop that needs replacing and I’m paralyzed. What are the most reliable ones now? Do I need a desktop for CAD? Pros and cons of operating systems (and where do I find them?) Browsers ditto? Where do I find answers that aren’t just product marketing?

Custodian1623,

HP is terrible at every level. Dell and Lenovo enterprise machines are fine

Custodian1623,

there’s a lot of Linux memes… don’t get me wrong I’ve had a chuckle at a couple Linux memes before but tbh most of the time it’s just a reference to Linux and they forget to include a joke.

I know this is not how dbzer0 works, but can you help me get cs 1.6 working on my linux system ? (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

I downloaded the game from soft32 (this file used to work on the old days). I installed both WINE and Lutris, but the game runs like sh**t. I get .NET and Vulkan errors from Lutris&WINE. Can you give me a newbie friendly guide for the right way? I’m tired of scrapping the web and it doesn’t help that I have limited data....

Custodian1623,

They didn’t disable it, you can roll back to csgo in the steam options
