Automatic opening doors but they don’t open by a proximity sensor, they open when you press the button.
I think it would be cool to have a hybrid system where you can wave/nod/bow to a sensor to activate it, but also implement an open standard frequency that can trigger it so people with reduced mobility can mount a transmitter on a wheelchair/cane etc. or just use their cellphone. Would eliminate having any external equipment that would be exposed to weather or vandalism and is one less common surface for the public to have to touch.

I remember one day hearing my father downstairs laughing his ass off. Went down to see what was so funny to find he had just discovered Mystery Science Theater 3000, and was losing it watching The Giant Gila Monster. I sat down to watch. I didn’t really get it then, but I’ve been a fan ever since.
I originally posted this on the other site back when I took the picture, and it resulted in a lot of confused comments, especially from Americans, eventually getting removed by overzealous mods. Either way, I promise you that this date does not exist, and has never existed.
The reason why it’s superior is (mostly) just because it removes that ambiguity of whether your region lists months or days first. By using a global standard you are still able to prefer whatever method of speaking it, but especially in situations around health and safety the less chance for confusion the better.
Like, the whole “flammable” vs “inflammable” label is another problem if someone incorrectly assumes inflammable is the equivalent of non-flammable.
Are you trolling or just incapable of acknowledging that you can speak a date differently than its written representation? The entire reason for any standard is just to ensure you’re working within a known/consistent framework. You can measure in imperial or metric but you can’t label an imperial or metric unit as the opposite just because you prefer it that way.
If I hand you glass of milk with a skull and crossbones sticker on it why would you assume it’s harmful when in my region it’s used to signify its high calcium content? I can say “poison” or I can say “milk”, but a skull should never be interchangeably used.
In the same way, a date written in a global standard format should always be immediately recognized as signifying ONE particular date, and you’re then free to localize it however you please.
Just wanted to say great job with this post! I like that you were quick to respond to questions/criticisms, updated the body with edits, and the huge thing of also updating the title and prominently calling out the right answer and the user that provided it.
I know it’s not even close there yet. It can tell you to kill yourself or to kill a president. But what about when I finish school in like 7 years? Who would pay for a therapist or a psychologist when you can ask for help a floating head on your computer?...
All my points have already been (better) covered by others in the time it took me to type them, but instead of deleting will post anyway :)
If your concerns are about AI replacing therapists & psychologists why wouldn’t that same worry apply to literally anything else you might want to pursue? Ostensibly anything physical can already be automated so that would remove “blue-collar” trades and now that there’s significant progress into creative/“white-collar” sectors that would mean the end of everything else.
Why carve wood sculptures when a CNC machine can do it faster & better? Why learn to write poetry when there’s LLMs?
Even if there was a perfect recreation of their appearance and mannerisms, voice, smell, and all the rest – would a synthetic version of someone you love be equally as important to you? I suspect there will always be a place and need for authentic human experience/output even as technology constantly improves.
With therapy specifically there’s probably going to be elements that an AI can [semi-]uniquely deal with just because a person might not feel comfortable being completely candid with another human; I believe that’s what using puppets or animals or whatever to act as an intermediary are for. Supposedly even a really basic thing like ELIZA was able convince some people it was intelligent and they opened up to it and possibly found some relief from it, and there’s nothing in it close to what is currently possible with AI. I can envision a scenario in the future where a person just needs to vent and having a floating head just compassionately listen and offer suggestions will be enough; but I think most(?) people would prefer/need an actual human when the stakes are higher than that – otherwise the suicide hotlines would already just be pre-recorded positive affirmation messages.
What's some amazing technology they have in Japan that's very normal to them but would blow our minds here in the US and western world?
What are some works/resources that helped make something difficult/unclear finally click for you?

Not the ideal community (better for open ended questions), but I’ve been looking for a Droopy cartoon that I vaguely remember from ages ago....

There’s an emergency at the Facility down the road, and everyone in a six-mile radius is very likely fucked....

I want to study psychology but won't AI make it redundant in a couple of years?

How do you deal with incompetence?
Especially paired with ignorance.
