DarthYoshiBoy, to linux in Is it actually dangerous to run Firefox as root?

I genuinely hope that you're kidding. If you're not. No. Just no.

A process running as root does not need a prompt or any user interaction to do whatever the hell it wants on most (nearing ALL, but I'd be wary of absolutes with Linux) systems. I'm unaware of any means that a Desktop Environment could restrict a process running with root permissions by requiring an interactive prompt of some sort for anything. If your DE is running as root, all of its children are also running as root (unless you've rigged things up to run explicitly as other users) which means just about anything you are doing could be running rampant malicious actors on your system and nothing would seem amiss until it made itself evident.

Now, it does seem unlikely that anyone has written any malicious code that would run in a browser expecting to be root on a Linux system, so that's likely the saving grace here, but that's only security through obscurity and that's not much to hang your hopes on for any system you care about.

Rice Krispies

I don't know why, but whenever my blood sugar is low (I'm a t1 diabetic) I crave Rice Krispies so much. It's now my favorite cereal even when I'm not low.

I had reddit premium before, and I'd have picked it back up in a second if it had been the cost to keep using RiF. Shame that they never intended to allow 3rd party apps to keep going. They're going to hold Narwhal up as an example that they're working with 3rd parties while doing nothing of the sort in any real terms. They'll likely turn the screws so hard on the Narwhal dev after the heat cools that Narwhal dev is going to wish they had just bailed before Reddit bent them over the barrel.

Fairly incredible to me how many people over there are frothing to be the small pool of users that Reddit holds up as the token representation of 3rd party app users that they didn't kick off the platform which totally means they actually were willing to work with app makers after all. 🤞

DarthYoshiBoy, to RedditMigration in I haven't been on Reddit since the 11th... Anyone else?
@DarthYoshiBoy@kbin.social avatar

I've been checking into my user page just to see if they've sent me my user data backup I requested a while ago. Other than checking for that message, I've been 100% clean and it hasn't been terribly hard. Between Kbin and Tildes, I've been getting all the commentary and aggregation that I want or need.
