It’s funny but you see the same thing in sports, or I see it specifically in hockey. Phenom kid gets drafted and at 18 has the social skills of the hockey puck he’s playing with. By the time he’s 36 he’s not the player he once was but is a more well rounded individual with age and experience. When you focus all your energy to become the best at something, like a PhD, athlete, musician, whatever, you sacrifice some things along the way for sure.
For real. Cemetery. Storm water culvert. That’s about it, outside of someone’s back yard, the cemetery and the storm water culvert. And I grew up in a fairly urban place. Not a city, but certainly not back country. Hop on bike, find somewhere without adults.
Brussels sprouts I can never quite roast or saute like you’ll get at a restaurant, but broccoli is my jam. Best way to eat it is roasted, maintains most of the nutrients. Wegmans sells (as I’m sure do others) a garlic and herb infused olive oil. That, broccoli, salt, in a bowl. Shake the bitch a bunch to really get everything lathered up. Bake at 425 for like 8-10m. Comes out crispy. My kids eat it. Everyone enjoys. And it’s healthy. Sure, it’s got oil and salt, but it’s broccoli, it’s ushering it through.
Yeah, these threads should exclude The Wire and Breaking Bad, do we can get some more shows. And this thread is actually pretty good, but IMO those two are the undisputed champs.
I have noticed that I interact a lot more in Lemmy than I ever did in any social media. Let it be Reddit, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter… I am used to be the lurker, but here for some reason things are different. Wonder if more people feel like I do.
I’ll jump in under your comment because it’s the same. Refuse to download Reddit app so my usage there is way down. Over 13 or 14 years I was fairly active. Here, I’m moderately so, but due mainly to my feed being probably proportionately inactive.
I’m with you. But I also don’t see the level of infiltration by undesirables (bots, mainly) in the niche subs, an so they stay to an extent as they always have been. But it is a when not an if they decline. Hopefully Lemmy picks it up. Or maybe I grow up. One is definitely more likely.
Jeez, I remember sitting at my Apple II in computer class in 1992 or '93 and our teacher having this comic cut out and taped to the side of his computer. I’m pretty sure it’s older than that too, but it’s a testament to the quality comic Farside was, simple but memorable.
As a kid, anytime I’d fly with my mom (infrequent) I’d do “airplate,” and my mom would always say what the hell is an airplate, and I’d say a flying saucer.

Eh, there are Christian denominations in my area flying pride flags and BLM flags. Granted, I live in a liberal area. But they’re not all bad. And I say this being very turned off by the idea of religion in general.
That’s the one. A general story throughout but each episode essentially a standalone, and so many fantastic episodes (and sure, some not as). D&D needs to get put back on streaming, though.
