We went for a full survey, the guy is RICS-registered

Yeah, they’re chartered surveyors, you’d be wise to get a structural engineer to look it over if you were thinking of having underpinning and they might spot other things. I stopped getting chartered surveyors and asked a structural engineer I know to do the surveys - they a lot harsher.

Someone else said that a reduction of 15k is almost unheard of.

Percentage wise it’s a big chunk of change but, depending on the amount of underpinning required, it might not be enough.

even then it’s going to be a shitload of hassle

If the underpinning is not accessible from outside the floors will have to come up. Cracks in the walls may have to be dealt with by removing the plaster and tying the bricks back together then replastering. Depending on where the damp is coming from you might need a new roof - did they get up there or use a drone?

I don’t mind roughing it a bit, but managing a project like this I would think isn’t really in my wheelhouse and will be very stressful.

And money aside, this should be your deciding factor.

I suppose if no-one wants to be your friend because your awful, then you take your ball and go and play with yourself.

That’s why I recommended Exploding Heads - I believe it’s now a requirement to register.

It depends on what flavour of conspiracy you prefer.

For general stuff:

For QAnon and the like you may have to go to exploding heads.

That’s good news - no need to pull any punches.

Chocolate flavoured shit.

Wouldn’t chocolate-flavoured poop just be like a chocolate mousse with some sweetcorn sprinkled in? I’d definitely eat that rather than the thing that tastes like actual shit.

Three hours and 26 minutes but it feels like 5.

It’s the best way to watch it. I imported the Canadian DVD back in the day to get the B&W version.

I’d add Return of the Living Dead as a quasi-sequel to Night of the Living Dead.

Good call - it’s probably the best NotLD sequel/remake after Dawn of the Dead.

Also, Psycho hasn’t been mentioned.

I still don’t see the point of a shot-for-shot remake but if OP is looking for B&W remakes then this is a must-see.

Cat People is another.

I’m disappointed that I forgot this.

The original 1958 movie is in color.

Nuts, so it was. The sequels are B&W, which is confusing.

@Emperor@feddit.uk avatar

To be honest I was quite surprised to find out the original Blob was colour, but I decided to leave it on the list. The mind plays funny games with us (or mine does anyway).

This question comes about as my really enjoying The Thing, finding out it had an earlier version, and then finding i enjoyed that version more and for different reasons.

Heresy!

Now I have that off my chest…

I’d love to branch out and watch more monochrome movies with modem ties.

The Fly - I have a boxset of all the various Fly films.

I Am Legend adaptations - The Last Man on Earth (B&W), Omega Man, and I Am Legend (as well as it’s mockbuster I Am Omega). The novel inspiring:

Night of the Living Dead - as it’s public domain anyone can remake it and they have (few of which are worth watching). A more interesting remake is the Dawn of the Dead one, although the original is in colour.

Nosferatu and Nosferatu the Vampyre but I’d also throw in Shadow of the Vampire about the making of Nosferatu.

The Blob - although the original was in colour.

And any number of Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolfman films.

So, for right now, we have to keep our fingers crossed and hope the developers take up the call for a change

Indeed - we need better moderating tools asap. I believe there’s a Lemmy fork working on that.

Isn’t one of the chief selling points of the Fediverse that you can’t be censored because there’s always some instance that will welcome you? Another USP is that the rest of us don’t have to read it if we don’t want to.

You get freedom of speech and we get freedom from that speech (assuming it’s objectionable, and I have yet to see one of these posts where some complains about being stopped from posting funny cat memes).

I’m on Matrix because I want to be, I’m on Discord because I have to for certain communities. I’d never pay for Nitro.

Not as good as Boba Fett’s Spaceship Leia.

Like a champ.

At least now we can give Leia back her proper name when she was in Jabba’s palace.
