Hell apps can gather a lot of info without actually asking for permissions

For example the accelerometer can be used without permissions

They look better than smoke stacks

And in all honesty they remind me of like a leisurely creek or small waterfall in that they kinda just keep going on in a pleasant consistent kind of way ya know?

Basically what I’m saying is that they’re pretty IMO

Think of the prevalence of van lifers

It’s been gaining popularity as it gets harder and harder to own anything

Having financial plans in place is very important, I know it’s hard but making a savings account will help a lot. Even if you just set it up so that $20 a week goes to it it will help.

Most Americans can’t afford a $500 emergency so your first goal will be getting to that point in a savings account. Your second goal will be getting to that point plus having funds in your account for you deductibles for your insurances (car, health, renters, etc). Then your out of pocket max for health.

It’s a slow roll building a savings account and it’s hard to leave it alone but it will help a lot.

Of course even then it’s still pretty nerve wracking so one thing that I’ve done is get a line of credit with my credit union and some credit cards with really high limits that I pay off every month and only use for like gas or groceries. That way they stay open and in the event of a financial emergency that surpasses my savings I’m not completely fucked. Which saved my ass 2 years ago when I had to have emergency dental surgery 3 times in one year. ($10k that I’m still paying off)

Basically trying not to over extend yourself financially will help immensely.

But a massive help is having a healthy social safety net.

My finances took a huge hit due to that and basically had me plate spinning for awhile.

Now that I’ve only got a few thousand left to pay it’s a lot easier.

The fun thing about stereotypes is that they are just blanket statements that apply to basically none of them.

Are there some lazy and stupid poor people? Yes, but they exist all along the financial spectrum.

The discipline necessary for having credit cards with high limits makes things really tough (trust me I know)

I’m the guy who does all of our forklift inspections at my facility for all 60ish of our forklifts every day‡ (the bosses think it more efficient having 1 person check them all rather than everyone checking their lifts)

What the person had done after tearing the hose was clean up the forklift with paper towels and jam the hose back onto the connector by hand (saw the camera footage because I have access to those (for some reason‡‡)) which is why I missed seeing the busted line on my visual inspection

There were a series of very “fun” pre-shift meetings the following day that’s for sure, and dingleberry got a 3 day suspension for not reporting the accident that tore the hose

‡ I also recently got the position because the other guy walked off due to a disagreement with manglement. This incident was the first Friday of having the position after the other guy left. They gave me fuck all for training (basically only the paperwork side on the day they left). But needless to say I’ve got a better checklist for those inspections now.

‡‡ I’ve talked with IT about it (among so many other info sec concerns) over the years and they’ve assured me (and my bosses) that they’ve revoked access. Yet it has never gone away. They’re great.

Straight up though the previous guy basically shrugged and ticked boxes for a hell of a long time

Literally the first week I was doing the job I had to get oil for 15 forklifts due to them being so low on oil that it didn’t even touch the dip sticks

I’ve also pulled so much crap out of the engine bays on those things it’s crazy, and a lot of it was full of cottonwood fluff so it’s been in there for almost a year

Funnily enough: no. They were unaware how much he was letting things go, they are aware now but they weren’t aware at the time.

The disagreement was because they were changing his start time from 5am to 9:30am.

Woah there bud, tone down the racism towards gratches a little bit. They’re people too you know and they just want rights.

Is there a forum for people who are lonely and sad but specifically not incel sickos?

like you know you’re a good person at heart but life circumstances and trauma and bullying and etc prevented you from learning the proper social skills to find companionship. not necessarily a forum to actually find friends (i find going into things with that intention feels fake and weird), but rather a forum to commiserate...

Gormadt,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

It does but the benefits to ones mental health from talking with randos is fucking bliss

Oh that sounds like fun

I would love to get local post cards and trade them with someone else far away from where I’m at

You should try to explain to the family why you weren’t there (if they’ll listen)

But honestly if they’re being so petty of you missing 1 party it might be time to look more deeply at the kind of relationships you have with them

Personally I haven’t seen most of my relatives in years due to a great many of them being really shitty people or being complacent when those shittier relatives are being shitty. And it’s been pretty nice how much my stress levels have gone down during the holidays.

Family is the relationship, relatives are blood. Just because someone is related to you doesn’t mean they’re family.

Add a little minced onion in there with a little garlic powder and you’ve got a fire burger spread

Hell it’s the year I’m switching

At this point it’s just Adobe keeping there

Primarily Lightroom at this point

I’ve used Darktable as an alternative before and I’m going to be trying it again as it was back in 3.something I last used Darktable

I really like the editing process in Lightroom but I’m hoping I can get used to something else

Davinci Resolve is one that I’ve used a lot and I’m happy there’s a Linux version, and the payment method is something I really enjoy about it compared to other editing software

Switching to Linux, my comment was pretty poorly worded due to staying up almost 6 hours later than I normally do

My first NAS was an old desktop that I got for $300 running an FX-6300 and a GTX 550, I slapped a couple hard drives in there, installed Ubuntu, and made an SMB share.

I’d recommend installing TrueNAS Scale on a system rather than doing what I did in part due to it being so much better than what I was doing, but you could run it on a potato if you wanted.

Hell my latest NAS upgrade is going from a PowerEdge T610 (tower server from like 2010ish) running TrueNAS Scale to a normal desktop (from 2017) running TrueNAS Scale

If anything using normal desktop hardware makes servicing it easier than using old server hardware

I’ve currently got the Meshify C (not the 2) for my main gaming rig and I’ve dug it the whole time I’ve had it; looking at the drive mounting for the Meshify 2 makes me really want it for sure as that looks really convenient

The more I looked at the Node 804 since I made this post the less I liked it

NGL I wish their North line of cases had more slots for HDDs

Gormadt,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

If only there was an ATX or mATX version

Looks hella nice though

Gormadt,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

18 HDDs into it plus 5 SSDs

Sweating intensifies

That’s a lot of drives, I’ll have to look into that one for sure

To hike more than the previous year

I got quite a bit more than last year, literally hiked through my shoes. Well more that I put the final touches on hiking through my shoes. I got about 500 miles of dedicated hiking done this year. I’m hoping to do more this year but I’m going to include morning walks as a part of that number.

I hike to be free from the chaos of life (and my memories) and this year was a doozy. So the external factors pushed me to hike more and honestly I think it was a boon on my mental health.

Being out in nature is so pleasant on my mind and allows me to truly be me.

10/10 would watch the clouds float by all day again

I’m amazing at forgetting to respond to texts or calling people back

I always tell people to text me after they call and if I don’t respond to text me again a few hours later, some people even do it
