I made a mistake **RESOLVED**

last year when I went back to Arch from Manjaro, I made a critical error. I’m not sure if I was just tired when partitioning things off or what. but I made my root only 20GB instead of the 50 that I had intended. I know in a lot use cases that’ll be fine, but in mine, not so much. with steam compat taking up 1-2gb and...

GravitySpoiled,

It’s great, there’s a toolbx/distrobox image, check it out

$ toolbox create --image quay.io/toolbx-images/opensuse-toolbox:tumbleweed
$ toolbox enter opensuse-toolbox-tumbleweed

I’d go for the atomic version nowadays

GravitySpoiled,

Why is firefox one version behind?

Good luck, sounds great

fedi.tips/how-to-use-groups-on-the-fediverse/

Of course not mature but mastodon can have groups without lemmy

I’ve got two services on my computer. One is for email, I want that this port to be open to the public WAN and one is for immich which hosts all my private pictures, I don’t want this port to be public but reachable on LAN. In my router I open the port for email but not for immich. Emal can communicate on LAN and WAN and immich only on LAN. On a foreign, untrusted LAN, like an airport I don’t want other people being able to sniff my immich traffic which is why I have another firewall setting for an untrusted LAN.

GravitySpoiled,

Compared to other debian based distros, right?

GravitySpoiled,

I’m on immutable fedora and the experience has been great. Aeon is similar, I can recommend it any day over a traditional install

Recommend security-first basic Linux Apps! (github.com)

As part of the effort of making a “Chromebook-like” secure, autoupdating, cloud-native, “unbreakable” (but still free and privacy-friendly) Distro, I would like some of your recommendations on especially secure software, that could replace common ones like File managers, Archive Managers, PDF reader, Image viewer etc....

GravitySpoiled,

Afaik the problem is solved within the code. I remember having compiled the app myself. It’s just a matter of time that it’s solved.

BUT it’s weird that this is so low priority to all gnome devs. It seems like noone cares about the correct weather. The source of weather is also not really perfect.

OpenSUSE Leap 15.5 -> Tumbleweed conversion

Thinking of trying to morph my Leap workstation into Tumbleweed (and potentially Slowroll once that project matures enough). I’ve seen that you can do it . I reckon I can rollback relatively easily via the BTRFS snapshots if it goes sideways, but just curious to see what others’ experience with doing so has been.

GravitySpoiled,

Why not moving to microos? I’ve moved to fedora silverblue from fedora and it’s been a well rewarding journey. I see no big difference to microos

GravitySpoiled,

I’ve been using gnome for the past year on my laptop and on my desktop I’ve been using kde. I haven’t used my desktop in a few months and I missed kde. I moved from silverblue to fedora kinoite on my laptop and I don’t think that it’s been two weeks but today I went back to gnome because the overview is much more polished than kde’s. It just works. Gnome always breaks extensions when they update a major version but I’ve seen so many “extensions” on kde now which are all not updated anymore and break stuff that I might actually think that gnome’s way is kind of good. Maybe it was just the fedora version which lead to so many bugs but the experience I had in the past week wasn’t so good.

Does this exist?? Messaging platform with a panic button from any member.

Basically I am looking for a messaging platform like signal or? but with anonymous signup, perfect forward secrecy, capable of video chat, sending photos the usual uses in today’s life. But with a panic button. So that any party member could use said button to wipe all other members devices of any data instantly inside the...

GravitySpoiled,

I don’t care about social graph being visible so long as there isn’t identifiable info during sign up. well said

you can also look into hosted services like EMS but I don’t know if you have to provide identifiable info.

But what if matrix was self hosted on a hostile network.

it’s all encrypted on the client -> e2e. even if it was http and no SSL

Say matrix was running from a hotel WiFi.

you have to provide a domain, I’m not sure how easy it would be to run it without and only locally on a LAN. IT’s possible but the experience wont be good. you also can’t federate. It’s much easier to use a hosted server.

How would one secure the service.

the same way like you’d do it with a publicly exposed host.

BUT I think I’d go with p2p matrix before going the LAN route.

Here’s a p2p matrix built …google.com/…/1uK_BcHGiAYHkN6OAA7P73obAquwShRg5

look into the matrix room for more info p2p:matrix.org.

GravitySpoiled,

You don’t have to selfhost. You can use anyone’s server. It’s all e2e. The social graph may be visible. Selfhosting is easy. Look for an install with docker.

GravitySpoiled,

Musicbrainz has a lot of data. Listenbrainz has only 25k users. What’s currently popular is heavily skewed. You can’t rate music properly. The android app isn’t starting at all. No pwa support. It needs months of your data in order to generate recommendations. Favs/likes/bookmarks aren’t synced with a subsonic server. Playlists aren’t synced with the connected service. It’s just not there yet, if ever. I scrobble. I don’t know why I still do it, maybe in the hopes that one day it’ll skyrocket and become useful. One day. Maybe the financial backer is missing. Most importantly, the userbase is missing. I have contributed so many albums to musicbrainz and I could still contribute hundreds more, if not much more. I do not have the time to contribute so much stuff that I’m don’t even love that much. It’s just not important enough. It’s like openstreetmap, owners do not care about adding their own info to it. As long as it’s like that it’s unimportant and not that useful.

GravitySpoiled, (edited )

you scrobble with your subsonic server or client or spotify to listenbrainz.org which belongs to musicbrainz.org which is the database for music like tmdb or tvdb.

edit: no, listenbrainz is not yet as mature as trakt. considering that listenbrainz is like tmdb, there needs to be another service for music like trakt which isn’t there, there is no working service that does that.

I don’t want to spread FUD that snaps aren’t reproducible. I just don’t know that they are and there is no source stating they are or aren’t.

Neither, flatpak not snaps are with reproducible-builds.org/who/projects/ which is bad of both.

GravitySpoiled,

do you have a numpad? wouldn’t that make more sense? I usually use the numpad to assign the position of a window. meta+7 is in the upper left corner, meta+6 is on the right, etc. but it would work with workspaces as well

GravitySpoiled,

Provate tracker. We are there for each other and together we have an awesome collection of linux isos
