I’m European but I have a set of US cups in my kitchen because most recipes are in these stupid American measurements.

Holyhandgrenade,
@Holyhandgrenade@lemmy.world avatar

Because it’s an annoying extra step I need to take. Also volumetric units are less accurate and don’t convert to well into metric.

Holyhandgrenade,
@Holyhandgrenade@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah grams are way more accurate and I always prefer to weigh, especially when it comes to stuff like coffee.

I just deleted my entire library and redownloaded it.

A lot of my files were shitty 480p versions of movies from the Napster days. Now they’re all 1080p, with a few 720p exceptions (mainly tv series episodes). All in all 500 something files in total. Now just watching uTorrent slowly download them all. Hopefully my VPN keeps the eyes off of me…

You didn’t even mention QBittorrent’s best feature: it has a search engine that searches across lots of different torrent sites, so you don’t need to check each one!

@Holyhandgrenade@lemmy.world avatar

IIRC you have to enable it separately, but it’s not very difficult to do. Just google it if you run into trouble

Yeah I’d argue canning is one of the greatest technological marvels of the 20th century. I never check the expiration date of the cans in my kitchen

My girlfriend’s family cabin has a cold storage in the basement. We found some canned stew that had expired in 1982. A friend of mine actually ate it and he didn’t get sick!

Older TV shows generally have a more even audio mix, because they were mixed for clear dialogue on TV speakers. Nowadays even TV shows have movie theater mixes, despite the fact that no one will ever see these shows in the cinema. I think TV execs just assume way more people have a Dolby Atmos system in their living room than they do in reality. It’s pretty stupid.

Holyhandgrenade,
@Holyhandgrenade@lemmy.world avatar

They already give you the option of choosing between stereo or 5.1, I don’t see why a low dynamic audio mix would be any different on the technical side.
Then again, a new mix would cost more money.

I can’t tell you how often I’ve opened Google Drive when I meant to open the Gmail app or vice versa.
I know they technically don’t look that much alike, but at a glance they’re way too similar. Just use a different color for each app please?

Time to play the game: Is it AI or is it Dutch?

Holyhandgrenade,
@Holyhandgrenade@lemmy.world avatar

Haha I don’t think it’s actually Dutch, I meant that as a joke lol
Jeg bor også i Norge

Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll check it out later today.
Todd in the Shadows also did a great breakdown of this song

Pat Finnerty is a treasure. His podcast is also pretty funny if you haven’t checked it out. But every day a new video from him drops is a good day.

Here in Norway this year, we seem to have skipped straight from snowy weather to too-cold-for-snow weather. I’m not sure whether I’m happy about that or not

Holyhandgrenade, (edited )
@Holyhandgrenade@lemmy.world avatar

True. There is a thin layer of snow over everything, but nothing I would call proper snow. Proper snow means shovelling the driveway twice a day

As a straight male, I have also come to appreciate Sam as the best damn character in the entire LOTR series.

It’s especially fun to learn the old ones, because they usually have really complicated jazz chord progressions. You just don’t notice because the melody is so strong

Holyhandgrenade,

Apparently you can’t recall the word “eaten” either.

On MacOs it’s so stupid. Instead of double-clicking on the new program to open it, you need to right-click and hit “Open” from the drop down menu. Only then does it even give you the option to open the program anyway.

It’s so interesting seeing Hendrix not on a stage or holding a guitar, but just being normal and goofy with a friend. 10/10 not a shitpost

Holyhandgrenade,

-30 °C here in Norway. Going outside hurts
