Proton Mail CEO Calls New Address Verification Feature 'Blockchain in a Very Pure Form' (tech.slashdot.org)

Proton Mail, the leading privacy-focused email service, is making its first foray into blockchain technology with Key Transparency, which will allow users to verify email addresses. From a report: In an interview with Fortune, CEO and founder Andy Yen made clear that although the new feature uses blockchain, the key technology...

JackbyDev,

How many people have verified how many people’s identity with PGP signatures? Also I’m willing to bet a horribly shocking amount of people would just accept a new key from someone (not necessarily sign it) and trust them regardless.

JackbyDev,

To be clear, I’m not saying this solution is better or worse than PGP, I just don’t believe PGP works well for creating a web of trust.

JackbyDev,

Yeah, I think you need to go out of your way to try to use ftps. When people say ftp they generally mean SFTP.

JackbyDev,

For discussions probably. Not for repos.

JackbyDev,

I disagree that you should believe everything will be fixed given enough time. I don’t believe doomerism is the correct response either, but I fear that believing things will just work out makes it easy to ignore problems.

JackbyDev, (edited )

I agree with you on that but believing everything will magically work out is rejecting reality to me. Clearly had things happen. Just because they get fixed doesn’t mean they’re weren’t still bad. Wars and genocides kill so many people. Just because the “good guys” might win eventually doesn’t mean nothing bad happened. It doesn’t mean we should just relax about shit.

JackbyDev,

I think my top comment in this chain was pretty clear. I’m saying that the belief that everything will work itself out leads to personal inaction. I believe it leads to complacency and that leads to more bad things happening.

JackbyDev,

I’m not advocating for doomerism, sorry if that was unclear! I agree with you on that! Doomerism is awful as well, and like you said, much worse than optimism! All I’m saying is that it’s dangerous to believe things will work out without your involvement. I think it can be like a bystander effect on a global scale, you know?

JackbyDev,

A concert I went to recently started at 7 PM with the headliner immediately taking the stage and ended at 9 PM. Best show ever.

JackbyDev,

Are you locking your knees? That can make people light headed and pass out. Idk. I’m sure you’ve thought of it but I’d hate for the solution to be that simple and you not know. I guess the question is does it happen if you’re walking for a long time or just standing still?

JackbyDev,

People go to a concert to listen to music. You can do that sitting or standing. Don’t shit in people’s preferences.

JackbyDev,

This is why us millennials keep our phone boxes

JackbyDev,

If you use a used one, hey, that’s just up cycling!

JackbyDev,

You should put them all on a keyring!

I remember some video. It was a joke about IT remoting in to fix a computer. The icons on the desktop were shaped like a dick. Then it guy took a screenshot and was like I’m definitely sending this to HR as he sorted them alphabetically. Then the other dude was like “no put it back, infant find anything!” And the line that sticks with me, the IT guy says “there’s no sort by dick”.

JackbyDev,

Thanks! I added the link!

JackbyDev,

This is hilarious. It really cut me deep. I don’t think I’ve seen Harold used in the Drake format like this either. The look of dejected shame is priceless.

JackbyDev,

OP you fucking idiot, if you expect people to get over two miles back then you’ve artificially extended the lane closure an additional two miles.

JackbyDev,

Even something like 30 years feel reasonable. It’s insane how long it is.

JackbyDev,

ATT covers something like 99.9% of my city and my street is one of the few that isn’t covered while being within the city’s incorporated area. I can literally walk to city hall. I know that a lot of fiber was laid with government grants and I’m very tempted to see if they were obligated to cover my street and didn’t and try to get them too. I’m pretty sure it won’t go anywhere but I’m tempted to. As shitty as they are they’re way cheaper (with fiber) than Comcast’s Xfinity is.

JackbyDev,

But we’re all forgetting the ultimate game mode, Life of a Peasant.

JackbyDev,

Clone isn’t derogatory.

JackbyDev,

The Boys spoilersThe top frame features Homelander. The bottom has Soldier Boy. Soldier Boy is Homelander’s biological father. They used his sperm. I don’t remember if they altered it but it was definitely originally sperm from Soldier Boy. Basically Homelander views himself as an upgrade of Soldier Boy but Soldier Boy views Homelander as a cheap knockoff of Soldier Boy. If they changed DotA 2 to DotA then the meme would make more sense. DotA 2 and LoL are both successors to the original DotA map from WC3. If Homelander and Soldier Boy were brothers then it would make sense.

JackbyDev,

When I was in highschool I thought Midwest referred to California and stuff because it’s the middle (North south wise) and in the west.
