KevonLooney, to asklemmy in Do the right wing women in relationships with right wing guys think it's like a draco malfoy thing where they're a good guy underneath?

Being ignorant of policy and perceiving any slight as a personal attack is a sign of a right wing voter. You know those studies that show conservative voters have higher disgust reflexes? This guy is the poster child. Downvotes?! The horror!

True. I mean, it’s sad for her to be with someone who’s got such a low bar. Does the dishes? Honey, you can use a machine for that. I’m doing them right now!

That’s the opposite of why people stay together. Usually people say, “Well they have trouble doing the dishes, but at least our major beliefs are similar.”

Honestly she seems pretty similar to her husband in how illogical she’s being. He’s like, “Well Republicans might be terrible socially but they might lower my taxes!” She says, “Well he votes for people I despise but at least those dishes got done!”

They are similar people in that they both make bad life choices. So maybe it works?

KevonLooney, to asklemmy in What is a beautiful concept or idea that continues to blow your mind?

An observer is not required for something to exist. You are misunderstanding. In quantum physics observers affect the thing they observe. That’s it.

KevonLooney, to lemmyshitpost in oh snap.

That’s not how statistics works. Every person will lose almost exactly 50%.

Estimates for the number of bacterial cells within the average 70kg Human male is around 38 trillion

Do you know what the chance of 100% of them being snapped is?

0.50 ^ (38 trillion) = 0.0000000000000…

The calculator ran out of zeros.

No one has mentioned that MTV invented the reality show in 1992 with The Real World.

KevonLooney, to asklemmy in So is the US slipping into Civil War?

It’s 100% drama. They’ve got you caught up in it.

No one in the National Guard is going to stop the CBP from cutting the fence down because their pension is on the line. The government of Texas doesn’t control that.

Not everyone in Nazi Germany was a Nazi either. That doesn’t mean it was a nice place to visit on vacation.

Yeah, enjoy every movie, TV show, joke, and surprise being ruined forever. Better to have wisdom than knowledge.

Also, wisdom will probably make you realize you should have just wished to be lucky.

There were many people who supported Mao in the 60s and 70s, mainly because the terrors of the Cultural Revolution and the failure of the Great Leap Forward were not really known in the West.

China was a closed society. Academics didn’t even travel there. That’s what they mean when they say Nixon “opened up” China in 1972. Prior to that, people only knew what the Chinese government told them about the country.

The person you responded to doesn’t understand statistics. As long as your sample is random and unbiased, you don’t need to sample the whole population.

Think of someone cooking. They just taste a little bit of the food to adjust the spices. If they mixed it up evenly, they don’t need to eat the whole thing to get an idea of how it tastes. That is the basis of random sampling.

This is an item that might be used every day for the rest of your life (even beyond your life). You wouldn’t spring for a slightly better one? Moissanite exists, as do lab diamonds if you want to go cheaper and look the same.

Definitely pay more than $500 for something that may outlast you. If you or your spouse doesn’t like the ring because it’s cheap, that’s a worse deal that spending thousands on something that you actually use.

Imagine a ring that costs $10K that is worn every day for 10 years. It looks amazing. $2.74 per time worn. Now imagine a ring that costs $500 that’s only worn once a month for sentimental value. Over 10 years that’s $4.17 per time worn. It’s more expensive because you don’t like wearing it.

Scientists have been looking for funding since before the scientific method existed. Leonardo Da Vinci had patrons

KevonLooney, to lemmyshitpost in It's as if my eyes have been opened for the very first time...

By reading a recipe really quickly and making your own, it will taste better and be healthier and cheaper. That’s the point.
