This city doesn't know what's coming
She doesn't feel the heat
This city won't know what hit her
What knocked her out into the streets
This city's thinking that it's over
And she's already fast asleep

I used RIF for 11 years. First I'm hearing about awards. Only ever knew about gold.. thought Reddit silver was a cutesy little joke for redditors.

100% agree. It was the only way I viewed Reddit for 11 years.

The day that pop-up appeared saying it was shutting down I set all the (small) subs I moderated to private, deleted my account, and came on over here. What a fucking shame.

Word. As an Android user, Apollo wasn't on my radar. Christian certainly made a name for himself throughout all of this - he was a phenomenal David against Reddit's Goliath, but I RiF was the backbone of my Reddit experience and will be dearly missed. Excited to see what apps for kbin rise from the ashes of Reddit.

Used Lemmy first and the Jerboa app. It felt familiar and I wrapped my head around in in a day or two.

Then I learned about the devs philosophies and just decided i didn't personally want to use their program.

I swapped to Kbin and have found the community to be very wonderful and engaging. I found the UI to be very clean. I also love the built in mastadon support.

Kbin is much younger than Lemmy, so things can only improve from here!

Lol. Original title said UI. I meant AI. You all are cracking me up though.

Yeah it's like driving by a house and sticking my middle finger out the car window at them and then never coming back.

It was only a moment, it will never be seen by anyone it was intended for, but it felt good for me.

Welcome to the fediverse friend. Might take a week or two to figure out, and the bugs are still being sorted, but boy is it a nice change of scenery. And once the apps come it'll feel like home again.

It's funny... Moderators are SO hungry for power that they just can't let go. If the moderators for huge subs like IAMA, PICS, etc. dropped the cutesy meming bullshit "protests" and just simply quit doing the job for free, some damage could actually be done to reddit.

But these people are simply too invested in the communities they built and in love with the power they have to let go of the dead corpse they are clinging to.

but that's what this post is, they're quitting. did you reply in the wrong thread or something?

They're not quitting. They are going to continue to moderate their sub. Yes they have agreed to no longer do a huge laundry list of responsibilities they took upon themselves to improve their sub - but they are not quitting.

Quitting would truly impact reddit. Losing this group of moderators who have built relationships with agents and PR groups would be huge. They are literally unreplaceable. It would take reddit years to get mods in place that could do what these do on the daily. But they are unable to quit because they don't want to give up their throne and things will eventually return to normal without reddit conceding an inch.

Look at the media coverage losing r/Minecraft got because those devs/mods had the courage and backbone to quit. We need more of that.

Even in their letter, the mods of IAMA said they'd been asking for tools since 2015. No changes. 8 years and they still haven't gotten what they wanted. Yet they refuse to take the next necessary step. To quit.

Sunk cost fallacy and power hungry are a terribly greedy combination.

Rip off the band-aid and delete your account.

That's the real

Eh... If I logged on to my Workplace account (Facebook for corporations) and saw that I was made moderator of a Jailbait community would I:

A) Do nothing for years

Or

B) Immediately remove myself and investigate that community to see if additional action needs to be taken
