The transition from the holiday season back to the normal drudgery is so depressing. Is there any way to make Jan / Feb less depressing?

like, it’s still dark at 5pm, there are barely any sports on, still bitterly cold and austere and it hurts to go outside, but you’re not even looking forward to christmas or the new year. the new year is here, and it’s largely the same as last year. except you’re getting older.

Lemonparty,

There are barely any sports on? Hockey is on nearly every single day. Football playoffs start in two weeks. College championship is next Monday. NBA is on if you’re desperate. If you’re not American get yourself a VPN and watch anyway!

Lemonparty,

My favorite part about this sub is how everyone acts like the entire world is able to just stop having a car and be able to carry on normally about their lives as if cars haven’t been forced into nearly all infrastructure plans globally since this inception. Like it’s every citizens personal choice that nobody built a functioning transit system in the many decades before they were born, or that the place they can afford to live is too far from the place that pays the wages they need to live is too far to bike or bus to.

Like, push for fewer cars and less car centric design, but also stop being a fucking cunty dick about it.

Oh I’d love to hear your explanation for why it’s irrelevant, and what crucial oversight I’ve made that you’ve managed to in your extensive 16 hours on Lemmy.

Lemonparty,

Your reading comprehension and understanding of English vocabulary is about on par with your lemmy account age.

Til things like “urban sprawl” are inefficiencies inherent to electric cars, and the lengthy list of these inefficiencies are definitely not drawn parallel to ICE in order to suggest that people should instead drive neither as the underlying theme of the post, particularly given the theme of the sub, which I am able to observe because I’ve been here longer than 16 hours.

Lemonparty,

Get yourself a sixer, kick your feet up and do whatever the fuck you want!

Lemonparty,

Hey fucker you took my answer! She’s the best tho isn’t she? Mine is the best. I’m sure yours is the best. They’re the best.

Lemonparty,

A better question might be why shouldn’t they? I’m not being pedantic (at least not intentionally) but if their defining characteristic is that they’re nothing special, just a simple Linux distro that does the basic shit easily enough and looks nice - that has major appeal to people unfamiliar with Linux looking to leave other OS’s behind. The vast majority of people that use an OS really have very little idea how it works or why. They just want some basic level of understanding and control over it.

Lemonparty,

They’d change the rules so they don’t have to do that anymore, then make it illegal for anyone else to not do that.

Lemonparty,

Eggnog. Probably best for my health that it’s only readily available for a few weeks of the year. We make our own but still, we don’t do that but til we’re reminded it’s eggnog season.

Lemonparty,

Where am I gonna post? One of the 12 meme communities that make up 99% of posts, or one of the 12,000 communities where the last post was four months ago and it had two comments, one of which was a bot summary?

Lemonparty,

Well you see it’s because they drew them with boobs and curves. Nevermind that women anatomically have those things…kids don’t need to know that.

Fellow Extreme Weather Lemmings, what are your Buy it for Life winter boot suggestions?

We got my husband some Helly Hansen boots the year before last and we noticed a hole in them last year. I am right pissed. If I’m dropping hundreds of dollars on boots, I expect to get my money’s worth. What are your awesome boot suggestions to help me do just that?

Lemonparty,

The honest truth is that there are no buy it for life boots. A foot of snow, road salt, etc will wear down all boots. Water always wins eventually. Always.

However! There are lots of great recs here, and you can’t go wrong with many of the suggestions (keen has done me the best over the years), but no matter what you go with, you will get years of extra life out of them by investing in TAKING CARE of them.

Oil and condition the leather at least annually. Get some boot trees or a boot dryer and use it. Check outsoles and keep them clean and grime free. Speaking of grime, wipe your boots down when you come in, don’t just bang them off, leave them by the door and think they’re good. Towel them off, and make sure they’re somewhere they’ll stay warm enough to dry. Good boots are tough, and they’ll stay that way a long time if you treat them well.
