I came over from a long-time lurker reddit account when Apollo shut down. I have really enjoyed my time here so far and I hope to contribute some fun content when I can.

I always thought panache was more of something you could add to yourself like a fancy coat.

Like a feather boa would give someone panache but maybe charisma would be the ability to attract with a smile. I know nothing, just guessing.

A trumpet properly played cuts directly to that bittersweet, blue part of my soul.

I enjoyed Cyberpunk at launch. Forgive me…

Red-herring refers to a deliberately misleading clue. Gish gallop might be closer, it’s when you make a bunch of claims at once to overwhelm your opponent without regard to the validity of the claims. It’s not quite willful ignorance either. Hmmm…

I love pedantic stuff like this so I’m pretty sure I will be thinking about this the rest of the day now… thanks lol

Invincible Ignorance Fallacy maybe?

…m.wikipedia.org/…/Invincible_ignorance_fallacy

The invincible ignorance fallacy,[1] also known as argument by pigheadedness,[2] is a deductive fallacy of circularity where the person in question simply refuses to believe the argument, ignoring any evidence given. It is not so much a fallacious tactic in argument as it is a refusal to argue in the proper sense of the word. The method used in this fallacy is either to make assertions with no consideration of objections or to simply dismiss objections by calling them excuses, conjecture, etc. or saying that they are proof of nothing, all without actually demonstrating how the objection fit these terms. It is similar to the ad lapidem fallacy, in which the person rejects all the evidence and logic presented, without providing any evidence or logic that could lead to a different conclusion.

What is good to eat when you have no appetite?

I am super sick right now and haven’t eaten much in a few days. It’s getting to the point where I am gonna need to force myself to eat something to keep my strength up but everything just sounds terrible to me right now. I have been subsisting mostly on small glasses of milk and the occasional packet of instant oatmeal....

My sister had trackers in the trunk of all of her kids cars. She told them it was there, they never had a problem with it. The clear signal wasn’t mom and dad are watching you… it was “don’t get into mischief in your own car” lol

Pretty good advice really 🤷🏻‍♂️

Gamers who have gamed for a long time

do you find it difficult to get into games? I’ve got Epic Games and Steam Games libraries chock-full of classic top-tier games along with many other newer games like Stray or 2077, and a bunch of indie titles. I just can’t be bothered to download and install them, much less try to get into the characters and storylines. Used...

I think the prevailing response here appears to be that as you get older you just don’t have the time like you did back in the day and so it’s harder to get into games. I think there’s truth to that but i wanted to point out something else. When you get older most people tend to do less NEW things and instead get more comfortable with what they know. Old people don’t know what’s going on in music, or art, or cinema, or even science because you find a world view that works for you and you stick with it, it gets comfortable.

When you’re younger you are more likely to give a fair shake to that new music genre or video game because you have so little to judge it against and you’re thirsty for new experiences. Not so much when you get older, people stop experimenting with NEW in favor of reliably good. Maybe use that perspective when looking at a new game or a game that you own but have never gotten into.

I have owned Rimworld since 2019 I think but I never got past the tutorial until recently. For some reason it all clicked and now I can’t stop playing. I think part of that is because it is so NEW to me, I haven’t played anything like it before so I can get swept away by it. Hard to do that when you’re playing your millionth FPS or open world slog.

Also playing with friends helps a lot. My significant other is a new convert to video games and it’s an absolute blast introducing them to new content. I had no need to go back and play Stardew Valley again… but it sure was fun lol
