Murdoc, to linux in ELI5 the whole Wayland vs X11 going on.

I feel like you guys aren’t really “explaining like I’m 5”. Let me show you:
Sometimes, when a mommyboard and a daddy graphics card fall in love, the daddy graphics card puts his connector pins inside the mommyboard’s expansion slot. Then when they both get turned on, millions of tiny electrons surge out of his connector pins and into her expansion slot, where they travel up through mommyboard’s data bus, and into one of her memory cards. Meanwhile, there are thousands of image files inside mommy’s storage drives waiting to come to life, and every once in a while one of them ventures out of the storage drive and into her memory card. And if the electrons and the image file happen to meet at the same time, then 9 milliseconds later, a picture of a baby appears on the monitor!

Don’t be silly, that’s just ridiculous. He’s not that powerful. But he is on the secret syndicate boards with the people that do. 😳

This has me imagining music made by a banjo and those “sproing” sounds (don’t know how else to describe it).

Murdoc, to privacy in There’s a Multibillion-Dollar Market for Your Phone’s Location Data – The Markup

I’ve heard others suggest something like “then you won’t mind giving me your SSN/SIN, bank account details and PIN, all your e-mail and computer passwords…” and whatever else you can think of, and if they are still ok with that, then add “and I’ll post them on the internet.” I don’t know how well it works though as I haven’t had the chance to try it.
People who say this are assuming benign, rational actors, but there are plenty of predatory and irrational ones that will misuse your data. So a list of examples, general and specific, may help there.
Hmm, could we as a community compile such a list for people to use as a kit (assuming it hasn’t been done already)? Then when people get the opportunity to use it, they could provide feedback that can be used to improve the kit. E.g., which examples work best, which don’t, presentation methods, etc. Does this sound like something people would want, and/or want to contribute to? I know that I’d find it handy.

At least we can see how that turned out. 😆

Murdoc, to privacy in The Irish government wants to pass a law that could see you or your loved ones jailed for possession of memes, cartoons or any content that could be deemed "hateful".

For some reason I’m now thinking about a video game called x.com where you have to fight aliens who have infiltrated and taken over a major social media site and are trying to TAKE OVER THE WORLD Wide Web.
(Actually, that kinda sounds like a sequal to x-bill.)

They already do in public.🤮 I’ll fight them as long as I can on my own computer though.

Murdoc, to linuxmemes in This truly is the year of the linux desktop

Perhaps a little lesd nice for those of us already using linux, but definitely better for the majority of people for getting less scammed by big corps. But one plus for us would be better support for apps and games that are still mostly or exclusively on other OSes.

I can see a woman holding an airplane made of cheese, full of passengers that are hungry and listening to a Belgian radio show about 3 veggieburgers that fight crime in the back alleyways of Rivendell. One of them is married to an oviraptor named Steve who just graduated from Bovine University with a 6.0 GPA majoring in Advanced Yelling, and with aspirations of one day becoming a comma.
What the heck does that mean??
