Fedora Core. It had so many problems updating. That would have been in the mid 2000s so it may have improved since then.

It wasn’t on Linux on but on a Vax Unix machine in the early 90s. We were an IBM shop but the accounts department got a Vax to run their new software. Obviously we were expected to look after this little box with no training. Things went quite well until it started to to run out of space. I found a huge file called vmuniz iirc and couldn’t see anything using using it. The file was deleted and the job was done. Until we rebooted.

Normally you’d just run sudo apt install … but in this case you are adding a new repository so you have to follow the extra steps of adding the signing key and so on first.

if Linux requires users to understand how to do things manually in the terminal

It doesn’t require it but it is often easier. It’s also alien when you’re new.

Wayland has been working perfectly for years now.

Not for every one. For example, I still get random black screens with only mouse trails, windows disappearing, and videos not playing properly. Why yes, I do have an Nvidia card, thank you for asking.

I recently found out it was Nvidia’s fault for not following the standard every one else agreed on.

Are you using the proprietary drivers and KDE?

I use KDE which has noto sans as its default. I use fira code for my terminal and ide though.

I’ve tried running Plasma 5 on Wayland occasionally but due to having NVIDIA card there’s always been bigger or smaller annoying issues so I always reverted back to X11.

Yeah, I tried it again this morning and got a black screen with mouse trails. I also have an Nvidia card and will give it another go when Plasma 6 comes out.

Are there any programs that can animate a cat to chase my mouse across the desktop?

I agree with everything you say but it’s there for those who are interested.

I’ve still got mine. I ran Debian with Xfce if I remember correctly.

Well, it’s pre-alpha so expect a lot of problems
