Ending support for Windows 10 could send 240 million computers to the landfill. Why not install Linux on them? (gadgettendency.com)

With support ending for Windows 10, the most popular desktop operating system in the world currently, possibly 240 million pcs may be sent to the landfill. This is mostly due to Windows 11’s exorbitant requirements. This will most likely result in many pcs being immediately outdated, and prone to viruses. GNU/Linux may be...

NOOBMASTER,

Who the fuck throws out their computer when it’s still working???

NOOBMASTER,

Zorin OS for now. Old kernel and stuff, but it’s stable, and I like the looks more than I did PopOS!. Maybe PopOS! is cooler now with their Cosmic thingy.

NOOBMASTER, (edited )

Couldn’t they just convert some existing unused key, like Scroll Lock? To be honest, even Pause/Break seems outdated to me.

NOOBMASTER,

yeah, the media controls are actually useful.

NOOBMASTER, (edited )

yeah, I’m just here to shill Zorin OS zorin.com/os/

NOOBMASTER,

I’ve said this before, and I see that I have to say it again, Zorin OS.

I'm so frustrated rn.

I have been distro hopping for about 2 weeks now, there’s always something that doesn’t work. I thought I would stick with Debian and now I haven’t been able to make my printer work in it, I think I tried in another distro and it just worked out of the box, but there’s always something that’s broken in every distro....

NOOBMASTER,

Ubuntu actually worked for some people, who, for example, had trouble with PopOS! and getting highest refresh rate on multiple monitors. So yeah, if Ubuntu doesn’t work, try Zorin OS, and if that doesn’t work, try Manjaro, and if Manjaro doesn’t work, there so many more to try out!

NOOBMASTER,

nvidia drivers have often done weird shit to my system. so, I would probably also lean towards amd in the future.

NOOBMASTER,

I’m not done with it until it is eradicated from all the computers and tablets of this world.

NOOBMASTER,

Try Zorin OS, it has cool design, and is pretty stable because it has an outdated kernel and stuff.

(solved) I can't get my linux system to run properly

I chose to use opensuse tw kde based on some vm tests. The installation was easy but for some reason the video playback on youtube is terrible. It stutters. First thing I did after install was to use opi to install codecs. Then I used Yast to get the Nvidia repo. Lastly, I used the software manager to install the video g06...

NOOBMASTER,

I would recommend Zorin OS, but honestly, anything goes, as long as you can get it running properly. No harm in trying another distro if the current doesn’t function well.

NOOBMASTER,

Something didn’t work they way you wanted it to work? Or not a fan of Gnome?

NOOBMASTER,

ok but almost all videos are in 720p… or even lower 🙁

NOOBMASTER,

Thanks, this one works for me! Before that I visited their Pro site, which doesn’t load any videos for me, and has redirects.

NOOBMASTER,

You could probably install one from the package manager.

NOOBMASTER,

I just didn’t feel like starting a new thread to ask some stupid question

Off topic: Didn’t they use to have adult games section as well?
