Inserts are those junk ads that always fall out everywhere when you pick a magazine up, right? How about Editorial, since posts/microblogs tend heavily towards being longish personal commentary?

Although Ernest said a few days ago he was thinking of changing the terminology. I don't remember if he said to what, just that he should. Kinda mixed about that. It makes talking about them more confusing both for cross-platform and for new users, but I got used to it now and I fear change

Yeahhh... Out of all those I tried, that was by far my favorite. So much so that I didn't even remember how unintuitive the regular website was til I had to shoot someone a quick message, fumbled uselessly through my chats, and realized I really had to google how to find my inbox on a site I've used every day for four years.

Despite his stated disinterest, there's apparently been talk about the dev re-releasing it for Lemmy instead and I can't tell if there's truth to that or not. The app store listing seems like some unnecessary work for just a placeholder.

......but I don't use lemmy, so I'll just have to see what Artemis is about.

How do I block top level domains on kbin? For example, I only speak English so I would like to block *.de.

Adding /d/domain-name-goes-here to kbin's normal web address will take you to that instance's "homepage" and you can block it there. For example, https://kbin.social/d/feddit.de

Keep in mind, this will only block posts coming from that instance, so you'll still be seeing comments from those users elsewhere, but it should take care of a good deal of it on your feed if you don't mind losing out on the three or four communities there that aren't in german

Hey is there any third-party clients for iOS or web apps for Kbin?

Nepenthe,
@Nepenthe@kbin.social avatar

There's one in development for kbin that's intended to work for both iOS and android. It's honestly looking pretty good. Right now, it's still in private beta, scheduled to go public mid/late July, but you could always see if there's still room on the pinned sign up form. I'm sure the dev would love as many testers as she can get

Best experience: A bunch of strangers getting bored during lockdown and setting up an impromptu hemotology class to amuse each other. This eventually became more of a generalized whatever-today's-instructor-likes class after one user stole the entire show with their brilliant rant about chemistry.

He and I were pretty good friends for a while and though parting ways was inevitable, I'm still sad to have had to. We can't get along, but I do miss him and I wish him well.

Worst experience: every time I posted anything about my mental situation ever. Without fail, İ would come away with multiple of the shallow, dismissive "oHH, if everywhere smells like shit, check your shoes!!" reply. They've never taken the time to think it out, but they know it's snarky enough to win upvotes and shut down the conversation.

I'm forced to assume the people parroting this are themselves abusers irl, because that's sure as shit not a sentiment r/raisedbynarcissists would take well to. Or really any PTSD-centered community/professional. Trying to convince the victim it's their fault is a common tactic, it's what the R in DARVO stands for.

If I needed someone to tell me I deserved to get beat with a table leg, I'd still be talking to my mom.

Combating bots by banning anyone without an email is understandable and seems doable for the near future, but like it would mostly be a hiccup for the people churning them out.

Google ignores any periods in an email address, so if you want to sign up with the same email all you have to do is fill it with differently-placed periods. What are they gonna do? Ban everyone who shares your name from having a reddit? Ban Gmail? If they did, there's still the plus trick that isn't specific to gmail

What video game is an absolute 100/100 in your opinion?

Journey. Short enough to complete in a sitting. Original creature designs and beyond gorgeous music. Yes enemies but also yes immortality, which sounds strange but turned out to be balanced enough that it's neither too boring nor too stressful.

No dialogue. No explanation except for whatever hieroglyphs you stumble across out in the middle of the desert, all of which are things a player could easily miss if they're not focused on exploring. Still sobbed three separate times. Everyone I've persuaded to give it a try has agreed with me, including the person that initially made fun of me. That one apologized.

Does anyone without kids ever wish they could attend "family oriented" things such as zoos, museums etc on days where kids are not allowed?

I know it sounds selfish, and I don't dislike people having kids or parents in general, but often on the weekend if I ever want to do these activities, I often feel like im fighting for space with children or families to view exhibits. I wish there were days, maybe once a month, where you could attend and no children under 14 were allowed or something. Maybe if its an income thing where the zoo/etc is free, there is an admission price that day.

Thoughts?

I think there would probably be too big of an outcry for many places to do that, especially if it they're not especially massive and the loss threatens to cut into their profits in a real way. Most people who go to the science center here are families, and I'm fine with that. I'm NOT fine that utterly zero of them know how to keep their voices down or their hands to themselves for three minutes, and in tailoring themselves more towards families with small children, they've only worsened the issue, not mitigated it.

They added a gigantic pirate ship play place....that is integrated into the aquarium. It is not a separate area, there are portholes along the sides of the room that display fish and such. If I want to see the 2/3rds of it that is outside the immediate penguin/stingray area, I must also be ok with toddlers shoving into me, shrieking across the room, and just generally running EVERYWHERE without supervision.

Problem: beyond my own control, my nervous system is so sensitive to that level of chaos that I literally just had to leave entirely and go sit outside in the rain by myself for the half hour it took my idiot body to calm down. I just...can't go to the aquarium anymore, I guess. Dinosaur room? Also hard to be in after 10-15 minutes. Among other well-intentioned mistakes that encourage similar behavior, the t-rex has been updated to roar now every time someone walks past it into the adjoining hallway. It's disruptive and you can imagine how much people --kids especially -- enjoy setting it off over and over. At the very least, they realized the singing bird puppet on a video loop wasn't testing well with visitors and finally removed it.

We already have a children's museum here, btw. There was no need to do this in the first place.
