OsrsNeedsF2P,

Fun fact- Dinnerbone, from Minecraft, works on this for free!

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Lazarus’ Operation DreamJob, also known as Nukesped, is an ongoing operation targeting people who work in software or DeFi platforms with fake job offers on LinkedIn or other social media and communication platforms.

Looks like they’re going after desperate job seeking crypto bros. Even if it’s not terribly effective, it’s a spray and pray, so they probably got some people.

OsrsNeedsF2P,

I’m actually getting this too. Worked fine on Brave

OsrsNeedsF2P,

People need to understand Gnome’s goal is to bring simple Linux machines to the masses. I’m not even talking about your grandma or neighbour Joe, they spend a lot of time going after the 1.2B people in Africa and 400M people in South America. There’s a reason they only have one calculator named “Calculator” and not 2-3 like KDE has with “Kalk” or “Kcalc”. There’s a reason they created stopthemingmy.app.

Lots of power-users still love Gnome, some because it they came from MacOS (which Gnome is still vastly more customizable than), and some because the terminal gives all the power they need on Linux. For people who don’t like Gnome, you can still appreciate the sheer amount of resources they spend upstreaming work and keeping a fully FOSS GUI toolkit, something KDE never had the resources to do.

So yea, it’s frustrating see people hate on Gnome when they don’t even realize they’re not the target audience. (I know you’re not hating on Gnome, but wanted to vent that out a bit)

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Not true. I run ad campaigns and pay upwards of 1$ a click most times. AdNauseum hurts like hell.

Please use it :)

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Snaps were designed to solve dependency hell, get modern software, security, among other issues. If it weren’t for the fact Flatpak does a better job, many more people would be praising Snap.

It’s good that Canonical is trying to make the desktop better. It would be better if they focused their efforts elsewhere.

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Appimages when you’re lazy? The fact you have to chmod them is annoying compared to an AUR helper

OsrsNeedsF2P,

“snaps are slow and buggy! I’m gonna use Windowzzz!!”

OsrsNeedsF2P,

LXD got better with the AGPL license, so Canonical did the right thing there.

(I know they added a CLA but it’s still way better than the permissive license they had before)

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Steam’s runtime is already sandbox-ception. Flatpak might be more appealing to Valve than it seems.

OsrsNeedsF2P,

It’s not about you, it’s about what’s easier for Valve. If Valve is fine packaging, and getting bug reports, from all the different distributions, they’ll keep doing things as is. But as a Linux app developer myself, I exclusively publish to Flatpak because it guarantees everyone has the same system.

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Wait until you find out how distro packaging works

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Correcto. Which means Steam will probably drop 32 bit libs soon. Which means Ubuntu will stop shipping 32 libs. The era is truly coming to an end

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Dunno fam, I like LAN partying 2001 games with old friends during our biannual meetups.

OsrsNeedsF2P, (edited )

Sorry, I missed the part where you submitted an MR

OsrsNeedsF2P,

That’s a lot of words to emphasize you don’t understand copyright law

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Old Proton builds probably won’t backport this (unless it’s completely isolated, idk the code layout of Wine). But are old Proton builds still necessary? Occasionally there’s regressions, but are there really any games that require like a 2 year old Proton build?

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Don’t worry, like smart TVs, wifi connected devices will become cheaper than their alternatives soon

OsrsNeedsF2P, (edited )

Gnome spends a lot of time testing user designs that are simple and get the task done for the 99% marketshare they don’t have. They try not to be bound by our current approach to computers, and instead idealize what most of the world actually wants.

I think it’s a noble goal but will never touch it. I’m surprised other people do. That said, I’ll always support them because of how much they upstream.

OsrsNeedsF2P, (edited )

Screw em companies, only Lemmy devs get my money.

join-lemmy.org/donate << btw

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Browsing this community is honestly like the reverse of learning

OsrsNeedsF2P,

If I wanted to use the terminal, I’d use Linux
