The funny thing is, capitalism happened organically. It wasn’t a designed system. So dismantling capitalism without a solid replacement will likely just lead right back to capitalism.
March of history. When material conditions are right you transition from feudalism to capitalism. When material conditions build up further, you get the transition to socialism and then communism.
I consider freedom of the press to just be freedom of speech, which we all have.
The thing is we don’t. There is no such thing as free speech, any speech that meaningfully threatens the government will be cracked down on. See Fred Hampton. Free speech is a legal fiction in our country.
But my point is that the limited bourgeois privileges you get don’t matter if you’re starving on the street. You can’t meaningfully have those privileges without economic security.
As for the homeless chap, it depends on their situation. I’d live in a community that would try to help them. I think we’re ethically obligated to help people in need as best we can, but I’m not comfortable using violence to force you to help them.
So it is more violent to take food from a grocery store because that hurts the owners bottom line than it is to prevent a starving man from taking bread from a grocery store by kicking his ass and throwing him in a box? Is that your perspective on this issue?
Regardless, I think we, as a society, should be there with the bread. It shouldn’t be an issue we have to face.
But you don’t think we should use violence to enforce the idea, so how do you enforce the idea in the transition when former small business tyrants chafe at the idea of sharing? What if they don’t submit to nonviolent methods of control?
Youre comparing making monarchists and nazi POWs (and due to corruption other folks getting caught up in that) work to repair the soviet union to making slaves out of drug addicts in the United States and somehow thinking the former is worse.
Also if humans were naturally greedy it would make sense for 99 percent of humanity to overthrow the 1 percent and distribute the benefits of society more equally.
We literally didn’t have borders as they exist today until a century ago lmao, they literally solidified around the formation of what we consider modern nation-states.
The human os isn’t ready for a borderless world my entire ass, the issue is the systems currently in place.
They provide the materials, the tools and machinery, the designs that are being made (assuming some sort of manufacturing company for this example).
Other workers made the materials, the tools, the machinery, and the designs. If the owner did they occupy a class position as a worker and owner.
They also carry the risk (unless of course they are a corporation, the ridiculous entity created to reap the advantages of personhood while avoiding all its responsibilities and drawbacks).
The risk that they might be a worker if their venture fails.
Two, I don’t believe that communism of any form result in a sense of fairness for anyone. I believe most humans have an innate desire to work to improve their lives, and I don’t believe communism offers the same freedom and opportunities for self improvement through honest work
Historically communism allows for more improvement though. Working class people would be able to take college classes in the evenings for free. Peasant girls went from a future of marriage and housework to being able to be scientists.
It is more easy to motivate yourself to be better at your work when what you’re doing benefits everyone than to motivate yourself to be better at your work when what you’re doing just benefits some bourgeois fuck.
If you think billionaires are bad but capitalism is good you don’t know what capitalism is. You should seriously consider reading some of marx’s shorter works like Value Price and Profit and Wage Labor and Capital.
anti-authoritarian leftists, including anarchists, libertarian socialists, left communists, democratic socialists, and reformists(who commonly use “tankie”
Ah yes, the anti authoritarian anarchists like the Ukrainian Free State, a military dictatorship that enabled pogroms against Jewish people in their territories.
The marxist leninists were in practice a lot more anti-authoritian" than the anarchists and other “anti-authoritians” of the time.
USSR was justified in using tanks to crush a revolution
noted anti-stalinist Khrushchev sent tanks into Hungary
I would also send tanks into Hungary -even if we were close to a peaceful settlement- if I suddenly got reports of soviet government officials and jews being lynched. Revolutions don’t start lynching jews. Counter-revolutions do.
This happened a decade after the holocaust in a country that the Soviets failed at denazifying as successfully as other Warsaw pact countries. Hungary was an enthusiastic collaborator in the holocaust. You do the math. The vanguard of the true revolution they were not.
Idealist. It would be easier and more viable to just have the means of production be owned and democratically managed by the proletariat than to share power in the long term with our exploiter without one side or the other losing.
