Advising for this means people will delete random cache and download stuff always.

Are multiple files in there? If yes you could add a script that only deletes files of certain age.

Nobara is sooo hyped. It is not a secure Distro. They literally

  • do tons of weird stuff with Apparmor and literally disable SELinux “because its easier to work with” (fedora variants are the only Distros using it, which is such a security advantage!)
  • add tons of packages
  • modify GNOME to make it very strange
  • delay an update for over a month

I recommend to use bazzite.gg if you want Gaming. They do all the Nobara fixes but

  • immutable
  • daily updates
  • SELinux intact
  • various spins for every hardware, including custom Kernels and tweaks

Important: Nobara is way less Secure than Fedora.

  • no Secureboot
  • monthly updates instead of often daily
  • purposefully removed SELinux (because the Dev doesnt know how to use it)
  • still no Fedora39!

If you want to game, stick to regular Fedora. A project that is actually secure is ublue with dedicated NVIDIA images that should just work and never break, and they even have Bazzite, an Image specifically for the Steamdeck but also for Desktop.

These images are only ½ day behind upstream, apply minimal additions and patches (like drivers, codecs, packages, udev rules for controllers) and Nick from the video above found out that the Nobara patches with their weird less supported Kernel arent really worth the hassle.

You can root GrapheneOS, no problem. Its just not as secure anymore and the bootloader cant be locked, banking apps will not work anymore, Android Attestation, Safetynet etc

What distro would you recommend for a 32-bit old Acer One laptop? (kbin.social)

It's an old model (Acer One D257) Processor is Intel Atom. Memory is 1GB DDR3 with 320 GB of HDD. I currently Have MX 21 running on it, but I need to reinstall because I forgot the root password. Since I'm reinstalling the OS, I thought I'd ask here for recommendations for an OS that makes the most of this oldie.

The Distro is not important, just debloat it. Something like Alpine is actually smaller, but in the end the Desktop needs to be tiny.

Librewolf but like... for chromium?

My main browser is Librewolf but I keep a chromium browser just in case. Previously used brave but their flatpak is shit. Ungoogled chromium seems ok but it looks like they don’t change much from upstream chromium. Any good chromium browsers which harden their browsers like librewolf does for more privacy?

Ironically for Browser you shouldnt use Flatpaks if you trust the browser and you care about security.

What Distro are you on? I use Firefox and Brave, both as RPM now. I actually switched for convenience (keepassxc extension works, plasma extension works etc) but they are actually more secure.

Native Chromium is poorly way more secure than Firefox. When using the Browsers through Flatpak you need to remove the sandbox, so process isolation and memory stuff is gone, and replace the specific sandbox with bubblewrap.

Bubblewrap is good, but doesnt support isolated Tabs.

There are CSS exploits, but to my understanding just using Noscript in “block all by default” mode is best for security AND privacy.

I would like to like Brave, as it is more secure, but it sucks a lot. Very bloated, tab management worse, missing extensions, damn Chromium webstore and the addon not working so no updates. It is not bad, and I want to write a hardening config soon, to remove and disable all that bloat permanently.

I would not recommend Librewolf if you are advanced. For one it is a Flatpak, ironically (didnt know this a few weeks ago too) less secure. Also it lacks behind in updates a bit, not much, but this may become a problem.

I am working on this tool, should work, that keeps your Arkenfox config up to date and sets a few switches to soften it. So you add that to Firefox and dont need Librewolf anymore.

On Fedora all you need is libavcodec-freworld from rpmfusion to get everything working. But ublue.it images work best out of the box.

Why are you downvoting this? Doesnt it fit your opinion? I also dont like Chromium, but its more secure. I also didnt know that Flatpak browsers are less secure, but thats a fact.

Peeps, bad news, Linux is damn insecure.

By simply placing an alias in your bashrc they could already grab your sudo password.

Another bad news, this Windows “okay” Button without any password is actually more secure.

web/low memory alternatives to Krita and GIMP please

recently I bought a Chromebook, I love it so much, it has Linux container enabled and I downloaded Firefox, GIMP, and Krita, but my Chromebook is only 64GB, so that can be a lot!!! So what web apps or low storage alternatives can I use?? I know Photopea, but what about drawing? Thank you!!

ChromeOS is a bad Platform that causes sick habits due to artificially low hardware standards.

Pinta is a good light drawing app. GIMP or Krita are both heavy for sure.
