I’m really surprised it managed to keep the order of the letters mostly correct

Pyroglyph, to asklemmy in Those who chose "never" in a "now or never" moment. How is it going for you?
@Pyroglyph@lemmy.world avatar

That last line took a HARD left turn, jesus.

Pyroglyph, to asklemmy in What do you want for Christmas?
@Pyroglyph@lemmy.world avatar

I’m lucky enough to earn a comfortable wage so I tend to buy things that I want throughout the year.

Many people in my position seem to only want things that unfortunately cannot be gifted. More hours in the day. Less suffering in the world. More time with loved ones. Less global disarray.

:(

Pyroglyph, to asklemmy in What is a good video host for the Fediverse/Lemmy?
@Pyroglyph@lemmy.world avatar

The only other reliable video host I know about is Streamable, but I’ve never looked at their privacy policy so it may be just another YouTube. Might be worth a look though?

Pyroglyph, to piracy in There's certainly some overlap

Just block the community. It would have been faster than typing this comment.

Pyroglyph, to asklemmy in What are some companies that deserve to be boycotted to death?
@Pyroglyph@lemmy.world avatar

Governments like the UK that insist prohition is a better alternative to harm reduction but continue to profit from poisons like alcohol.

How does one boycott the government? Would I cut up my ID and declare myself a sovereign citizen? As much as I agree with the sentiment, I don’t think it’s as easy as that haha

CloudFlare R2 is S3-compatible with no egress fees, which would be useful for video hosting. They have a reasonable free tier as well, so you could try it out beforehand.

Pyroglyph, to asklemmy in What is Something Scientific that you just don't believe in at all?
@Pyroglyph@lemmy.world avatar

Is this why I could never find stuff and then when my mother looked she would just go right to it?

Pyroglyph, to asklemmy in What companies have made your blacklist?
@Pyroglyph@lemmy.world avatar

Most of these make sense but the Applebee’s one isn’t really on your shitlist. From what you’ve said you just seem indifferent to it, much like you’d be indifferent to any other store you have no interest in.

Pyroglyph, to piracy in I feel like the Steam Deck is the best proof of Gabe Newell's quote that "piracy is a service issue."
@Pyroglyph@lemmy.world avatar

Valve is currently a private company, which is likely why they’ve been able to avoid enshittification for so long. All we can do is hope that whoever eventually takes over when Gabe steps down also has his ideals at heart.

I just looked and they have a paid tier for $10/mo that removes the free limits and includes 500GB of cloud storage.

Pyroglyph, to asklemmy in How do you think social media platforms should work?
@Pyroglyph@lemmy.world avatar

I initially rejected this idea with a reason like “You seem to forget how vile certain parts of the internet can be,” but the more I think about it the more I agree, given a few conditions. Namely that children should not be allowed access.

Forbidding children access to the internet would solve many problems, such as social media addiction (potentially leading to depression), the spreading of misinformation, and the general amount of child exploitation online. I don’t deny that such an action may introduce other issues that I have yet to consider, but I still feel that the main points are very compelling.

I am also aware that such a system is not perfect and that people will undoubtedly circumvent it, but a much larger number of people will not (if it is made difficult to do so). Unfortunately, the only conceivable way to do such a thing is some kind of age-verification system, which I am against for various privacy-related reasons.

Pyroglyph, to asklemmy in What word do you always forget?
@Pyroglyph@lemmy.world avatar

I think I prefer “soupy scoopy” over “ladle” now
