I feel like Windows lacks some sort of switch that would clearly identify you as an advanced user allowed to do everything.

May be hidden as a flag in the registry, even.

DDR4 fanboy here

Sanyanov, (edited ) to lemmyshitpost in Finally, someone who understands me.

It is indeed, and it needs our support and attention - and not the project that took an open-source model away from us, using millions to capture the market and exploit users.

I refer to OpenAI and their creations as cancer, not all generative models in general. The latter have a big place in the future, and it’s best to make sure this future will be bright.

Sanyanov, to memes in Communist Filth/Capitalist Filth

This is a golden take. We seriously need to communicate it to the Left.

You might be right on that - you know, everyone faced the challenge to find the right Debian installer :D

Wow, good luck with your project!

Sanyanov, (edited ) to lemmyshitpost in Electric eel

That will heavily depend on the surroundings, your body, and contact points.

Also, freshwater and saltwater eels approach it differently, with freshwater ones (the ones delivering those 600-800 volts) able to give out amperage of around 0,1A.

This may not seem like much, but it is actually enough to stun and paralyze a human, and this is exactly what we see here. If there’s nobody to break the contact, the current will keep flowing for several more seconds, and then your heart will stop, with all the consequences it entails.

Mental Outlaw also has the great guide explaining the install step-by-step in a great detail

We do! You’re great!

Sanyanov, to memes in This is great. You should try it.

Fun part is, Aspergillus oryzae (fungi used to make koji) can develop into dangerous strains that release heavy toxins able to easily paralyze an adult forever.

Sanyanov, (edited ) to comicstrips in Offering solutions is annoying

The core problem, as always, is communication.

If you want to vent, or gain some compassion and care, and you’re talking about your problems to a problem solver - say it.

Don’t say “I have problem A and I don’t need solutions”. Say “I know what to do with this, but it’s very frustrating and I need your support”. Yes, just like that. Admit, with words, that you want them to care for you. That’s it.

If you’re a problem solver, and you know the other person is often willing to just vent, or if you’re not completely sure your advice is wanted, ask it.

Don’t say “Just do B, problem solved”. Say “I might have some ideas on how to help you. Do you want my advice or should I just be there for you?”. And then if they want it - go for it! Don’t expect them to be ignorant of simple solutions; most likely they already thought them over, and either dismissed them for reasons not obvious to you from the first glance, or they already made it part of their plan.

Talk such things through, it will do wonders. For both of you.

True, but if snapshots turn from first line of catastrophe response to a regular tool, this is not a good experience.

Also I believe Garuda has enabled snapshots and btrfs by default.

Fahrenheit’s hometown is certainly the metric everyone should use /s

Celsius is not arbitrary, it is based on objective physical reality, and the only arbitrary thing about it is atmospheric pressure, which is more or less equal on the sea level. The rest is us finding convenient patterns, not the other way around. 0-40 is not a scale, it’s an arbitrary range and adaptation of Celsius to subjective feelings of hot and cold - one that you ironically need for Fahrenheit, too. Actual thermometers normally go -50°C to +50°C.

On sub-zero, it is the same idea: -5°C is a weather for a light winter jacket, -15°C is a weather for a heavy winter jacket, -25°C is for heavy jacket and some pullover, etc etc.

The 0-40 argument demonstrates that we don’t need some arbitrary scale based on Fahrenheit’s recording in his hometown in order to conveniently estimate temperature. The groups for each dozen of degrees are just for easy reference. 17 degrees is optional for your taste, to me it’s light jacket weather in overcast or t-shirt weather when sunny. There are no perfect temperatures for anything and anyone, and it just doesn’t make sense to get into more detail.

As per granularity, people invented decimals, but normally it’s simply not necessary to tell the difference between 17°C and 18°C, let alone between 63°F and 64°F. There are so many factors influencing the temperature feeling, and one degree ain’t one.

RISC-V should be fine, if price, performance, software support, and form-factors are all okay for you.

For most, it isn’t, but if you wanna go such great lenghts, I’d say you have a chance.
