Showroom7561,

That’s when I hit “DELETE ACCOUNT” because there isn’t a single service I can’t live without, and these companies keep pushing their luck.

I remember when I closed a Roblox account, which i only created to play with my son years ago, and they wanted my DRIVER’S LICENSE. I told them quite firmly that if I was able to create an account without one, they sure as hell arent getting it now. They deleted the account. LOL

Showroom7561,

You can try all you like, but the reality is that as long as you’re logged into their service (which you’d need to be to use it), they will track you in ways that you can’t shield yourself from.

If you want to try:

  • Set up an account and use the service through a VPN.
  • Register using email/names/information that is not linked to your actual personal info.
  • Use a DNS adblocker, or something like Adguard on Android to block any app-side trackers.
  • Opt out of whatever you can through Discord (not that I think they abide by it, but all you can do is try).
Showroom7561,

It’s actually going beyond cars, now.

“Connected” e-scooters and e-bikes that use apps to control their functions also have the ability to collect data (including location) for use in ways that could be abused/sold/stolen.

Showroom7561,

Adguard VPN and Adguard (adblocker) can work simultaneously 😀😀😀

The only caveat is that Adguard VPN only works with their servers, so you can’t, for example, VPN to your home or work network.

Showroom7561,

Right. I understand that.

What i mean is that if you want to run a VPN with Adguard, then Adguard VPN is compatible.

Not ideal, I get it, but if you need to bypass geo restrictions or to keep your ISP from spying on you, then it works great.

Showroom7561,

Adguard has been a trusted company in the adblocking space for a very long time, and their CEO and company is quite openly active in the privacy and cybersecurityrealm, so that’s important.

That said, their VPN is a really new product, so there’s a lot of room for improvement.

They do have the best adblocking solution, in my opinion, so if VPN is also needed, they give you something for that. The alternatives are often messy or not totally compatible.

For me, it works great for bypassing geo restrictions, but my threat model isn’t on the extreme end. I got a plan really cheap, so it saves me money over PIA and Windscribe, which i used previously (and sucked for streaming).

I do suggest that everyone find a solution that works for them, regardless of who they go with.

Showroom7561,

Adguard with DNS + local blocking is the way.

Showroom7561,

Man, planning a 3-2-1 backup strategy for CERN must be a nightmare!

Showroom7561,

Free egress is fine and all, but as someone who uses cloud storage as a last resort, I’d want to pay less for storing that data, regardless of what it costs to get it back.

A 20% increase is a little bonkers. Do they give any reasons for this substantial increase? Computer storage prices have not gone up, from what I can see (they’ve gone way down from two years ago).

Started deleting my Reddit comments, now my profiles shows no comments at all, despite them being there!

I don’t know if Reddit is just trying to be a dick or what, but as I started to delete some comments, I’m not able to see any comments in my profile “hasn’t commented on anything”, but if I visit actual posts where I’ve commented, I can clearly see my comments there....

Showroom7561,

Well, shit. Thank you for the explanation. Sounds like Reddit is actually being a dick! I’ll figure this out one way or another.

Showroom7561,

Regardless, using Shreddit + my GRPD export is working! It’s slow, but it’s absolutely working!! I’ll let it continue to run overnight and that should be that! =)

Showroom7561,

Ok, it did stall after about 16,000 comments. Is it ONLY the comments.csv files that needs to be edited because there’s another file (comments_headers.csv) that seems important. LOL

AeroPress - my coffee maker for the last 15 years (www.youtube.com)

Bought this in 2008 and am still using it in 2023. It's compact, durable and has produced great coffee for me, nearly everyday, for the last 15 years. All you need is a kettle and good coffee beans. Add coffee, pour hot water, wait 1 minute then press the plunger to get your morning brew.

Showroom7561,

Do the permanent stainless steel filters work as well as paper filters?
