Please understand: I mean this in a very, very loving way. Lemmy has so much content and so many references that I do not understand but it’s awesome seeing all these passionate communities outside of my usual circles.
Join the league communities and start discussions! They could use more conversation. I’m resuming after not playing in a long time myself, probably because I decided to watch LCS when someone told me that a team besides C9 or TL won last split.
It’ll take me some time to catch up on all these changes, though lol. Hopefully the pro seasons resuming helps.
I feel old that I remember when people made this joke about Capcom - That they didn’t know how to count to 3. Now it’s just Valve, it’s for all their games instead of one, and I feel like it’s been true way longer than I could make the joke about Capcom lol.
For context, there was like a million versions of Street Fighter 2. (SF 2 : Champion Edition, SF II: Turbo, Super SF II: New Challengers, Super SF II: Turbo, Hyper SF II, it went on and on).
Woah you escalated that quickly. Breathe. You guys were having a reasonable discussion that was enjoyable for me to read until you pulled out the insults and curses for some reason.
I’ll go first. Mine is that I can’t stand the Deadpool movies. They are self aware and self referential to an obnoxious degree. It’s like being continually reminded that I am in a movie. I swear the success of that movie has directly lead to every blockbuster having to have a joke every 30 seconds
If you didn’t love the first one, I doubt you’ll like the others. I haven’t read all of them yet, but everyone I know who has read them all always started by enjoying the world of the first one first.
The problem is no one is ever going to put in the work and prep production effort that Jackson and his team did. It could be made better and more modern, but will it in our current environment? No, all the practical effects would be replaced by CGI, all the armor and costumes for the tons of extras would just be CGI, the extras themselves would be CGI, and it probably would be packed with meta commentary and jokes. Just look at The Hobbit compared to Lord of the Rings. It doesn’t work without all the effort and pre-production, and I don’t think we’re getting a studio to ever make that bet again. It was pure luck we got it the first time.
I’m still mad it basically kicked the DnD movie out of theaters. If it wasn’t for all the hype for Mario, I think the DnD movie would have done a lot better, but that’s partly their fault for choosing a terrible time to release a movie - a week or two before the biggest video game franchise of all time releases their movie.
When lockdowns were coming to an end, there was an influx of people asking travel related questions on r/france. Something I wish existed at that time was a francophone equivalent to r/VisitingIceland, which is an incredible resource and community when it comes to making your travel plans to Iceland....
The same thing happens on Reddit, though. I think that’s kind of just the internet from now on. /r/worldnews is literally just a pro-Israel, anti-Palestine echo chamber so it’s nice to see another perspective on here. (I only browse Reddit at work not logged in for the record.) Over here, the hive mind on that seems to change thread to thread.
Ya ever since everyone defederated from exploding heads there’s definitely less of them. Maybe one day they’ll create another instance. I hope they do, maybe a less transphobic conservative instance, just for the variety of people.
